Been interested lately in getting an OTF knife. I can't afford a Microtech or a Benchmade and I really just want an OTF to have an OTF. I stumbled across the Schrade's and I like them, but I have no experience with them.

Anyone here who's owned one before? For $50, the price can't be beat for an OTF.

I think they only go out and you have to manually cock them again.
I have purchased this one https://m.dhgate.com/product/microt...cnc-d2/385855296.html#s1-4-1;searl|2578210320
And this one https://m.dhgate.com/product/andy-v...ch-t-e-action/400814905.html#mst_topselling-3

They are chineese ultratech copies, but at least they are unbranded copies. They have worked great. Fire hard, and the slider is not as hard to press as a real microtech.
There is also a slightly smaller version https://m.dhgate.com/product/horizo...t_showname-2-ff8080815621b26e0156ef0434ad3651 about the size of a utx70.

I saw one going for a decent price, so I got it. It's the tanto blade model, I decided that since the blade is so short it didn't make much sense to be double edged. Will post a review when I get it next week.

Knife came in today. It's the SCH0TF8TB and the price was under $40, or about 1/10th the price of a Microtech or Benchmade. It has an aluminum handle, a pocket clip that carries tip down, which being an OTF that's what you want because when you pull the knife out of a pocket, the blade deployment knob will be right where your thumb is. AUS 8 steel is the blade metal and for other OTF's similar in price to this Schrade, the Schrade is giving you a known quantity.

The blade is tanto style, which I think is more useful all around than the double edged spear point Schrade also offers. I just don't feel as safe with a double edged knife and for the 3.5 inch length, the second edge doesn't have much use, even in combat. Were this a fixed blade that was about twice as long or longer... I might say get the double edge. The tanto is good for penetration, so if you need it for that, it'll work. It's also much better for utility tasks as you can brace your thumb against the spine.

There is a lock that will prevent the knife from deploying, which for an OTF I like having. The lock was a bit stiff out of box, but it's gotten easier the more I've used it.

The blade unlock button is located a bit above and lot the side of the deployment knob, so as long as you keep your thumb on the knob, there's no chance you'll accidentally unlock the blade.

What I really like about this knife, which a lot of people will complain about, is the size of the handle. It's thick, 3/8 or 1/2 inch thick, but it's well textured and it fits in my hand securely and I feel I have more control over this knife than I do any other non-fixed blade knife I own. At first I got this because I wanted an OTF in my collection, but now I think that I'm going to keep this in the car and use it for carrying occasionally. I like it that much.

So, if you're looking for a name brand OTF knife that doesn't break the bank, this Schrade is excellent. Is it the smallest OTF out there? Probably not, but it's not crap by any means.

Thanks for the review - I’m considering one & will likely follow they with purchase in the next few weeks or months.
