What if anything is the difference between the Marlin 995SS and the 795 stainless? The Marlin 995SS was made only about two years and was dropped just as the 795 was introduced in 1997. To answer a bit of my own question...they both have synthetic stocks, LSHO, box mag fed, so....????

So, does anyone have any knowledge

of these two models. Any thoughts how I can find an answer?? Thanks.

Not knowing the models - I would guess manufacturing differences leading to a less than 100% parts compatibility or a modification regarding safety or sights/scope mounts.

Numrich has a schematic for the 995 so there's a starting point for comparison also if you can find a write-up on the 995, I'll bet one of the rifles it would be compared to would be the 795.

Appreciate the reply

but have searched the net and have not found any "reviews" that compare the two. Have checked my Gun Digest collection from around the time of the transition from 995ss to 795 and have found nothing. On RFC there is one piece of information showing one person measured the diameter of the barrel from each model and they were identical. (There was some thought that 995 had a heavier barrel.) So, still searching for any differences but beginning to think they are identical rifles.
