Hi guys, i kind of want to get a Ruger M77 Hawekeye VT. But part of me keeps saying get the Savage, its probably more accurate, and it will defiantly have a better trigger! The Ruger seems some how a little better made though!

How bad are Ruger triggers, specifically the VT model?

Also it seems wrong to reward a company for putting rifles out there with bad triggers, its not the point that an aftermarket trigger is out there!

What are you useing it for and what savage are you compairing to. There target series are different.

Rugers mkII vt trigger is a good 2 stage trigger that has a better feel than what savage use's in there accutrigger. You can improve the ruger also with some tuneing but guys run them at a 2lb setting and that makes for a good open field hunting trigger or hunter/match trigger .

The accutrigger can be easily tuned to 1lb but it is still a pile of mush. Exceptible to many but not good . Savage does have there target seies rifles that over all are a step up with a way better trigger at a weight down to 4oz but cost starts a couple hundred higher than the ruger. Savage T series is a rifle is made as a out of the box bench rifle. Many guys just replace triggers reguardless of label if a lighter better quality aftermarket trigger if needed.

I have a Ruger VT rifle in 22-250 for several years. It is a two stage trigger and breaks clean ar 2 3/4 lb. I haven't had any desire to work on it or change it out. BTW my VT rifle will shoot 3/8'' 3 shot groups off the bench with my loads. :)

I had a ruger vt 25-06 and the trigger was scary light. It was a factory trigger.
