I took my VLS out to the range today and noticed a small crack developing from where the bolt handle is and migrates to the other side where the safety is. It doesn't go all of the way through to the outside layer of the laminated wood but is signifigant to cause concern. I guess is it was caused by the recoil where the rearward part of the receiver touches that part of the stock. My plan is to use some sort of glue/epoxy to seal the crack then sand that part of the stock to where it doesn't touch the receiver and reseal it. Now what adhesive to use? I had a guy at the range suggest super glue since it absorbs into the wood. Any other suggestions.

Thanks, Flip.

I think I'd try to fix it using the telephone. :uhoh: See if Remington will ship you a new one as a warranty replacement (even if it out of a technical warranty period)? I doubt they want to hear about how you got stiffed by them over a defective stock?

No Super Glue..Only works if there is zero gap between parts...Also, sharp impact will break it loose (I know this because my dad used to be a machinist...they would superglue pieces together, machine them, then smack 'em with a hammer to get them apart...This was before "Super Glue" was even commercially available.)

IF Remington won't fix it, you need a good 2 part epoxy, there's a variety to be found at any hardware store. Rough up the surfaces to get a decent bind I use the "5 minute" type for stuff like this. but wait overnight to file or sand it down. You can even mix in a little coloring to match whatever it is you're working on...Will generally be stronger than whatever it is you're gluing.

Might be a good time to find an H-S Precision "take off" from one of the boards. I'm seen 'em in the $125 range. OTOH, Remington might well replace the stock.

I don't know if remington would replade the stock. It has been bedded and floated.:uhoh: .
