they live in chattanooga i live in va any gun shops down there do gift certificates? i would like them to be able to go there with mom or dad and pick for them selves would also like to feed their ammo habits periodically

I presume that these nephews are minors.

If so, one of their parents would have too do the actual gun buying. The easiest way would be for the boys, along with dad or mom (or both) to go to a gunshop and pick out what to buy. They could then send you the information concerning what the costs would be, including taxes and whatever. You could then send the parents a check or money order to cover the specified amount.

Another way, which would likely be much more expensive, would be for you to buy the guns, and then have the dealer ship them to another FFL in Chattanooga. One of the boys' parents would then complete the required paperwork and take delivery of the guns from that dealer. Expect to pay fees to both dealers, and shipping costs as well.

As for ammunitiion, send the parents a check once and awhile, and they can purchase the ammunition.

You could send them a Visa gift card. They could also use it to buy other things.

Better Idea prepay for the gun with your VISA and let the parents come and do the NICS for the kids, if they do not want the guns the money has to be refunded to your card, so either they take the guns or no gift.

I think you are aware but there are dumb laws about selling guns between two residents of a different state...you can't do it. Gift certificate is a great idea and yes you are a great Uncle! Make sure you teach them about firearm safety.

This is only true for handguns, In most states non residents can buy long guns.

Hi Uncle Cassandrasdaddy: :D

How is Aunt Cassandrasdaddy, and Cousin Cassandrasdaddy doing? Thanks for offering to buy us all rifles! I would like a CZ 453 with set trigger, in .22LR! I promise, I won't shoot my eye out.

Appreciatively,

Your "Newphew",

I just bought a gun for my nephew. I put it in my car and drove to his state and gave it to him. That was, I suppose, legal since Ohio residents and residents of adjacent states can do that.

its better than you think my sis was an anti gunner for years. she masrried a good guy and saw the light. the boys are 12 and 14 and impressed me considerable with their gun dafety. both done the hunter safety classes one did it twice dad said he wasn't paying attention. i still had em in vests when the 2 of em were shooting at my house. but its good to see kids like that act right. helps a cynical old man.

Don't pay directly, that's a straw purchase. Send the parents acheck, or gift certificate.

I just bought a gun for my nephew........... can do that.

I would delete that post ASAP. You've "hypothetically" ;) commited a felony, as you can only buy from FFL's in other states.

Check Ohio law. Residents can buy guns in the adjoining states of Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania just as if they were in Ohio. Residents of those states can also buy guns in Ohio. Were this not true Cabelas would not have a store in Wheeling, WV where only a fraction of their business comes from WV.

Not true. This is a violation of federal law since an FFL wasn't involved in the interstate transfer of a firearm from you to him.

Through an FFL only. Private party transfers of firearm (with few exceptions) between residents of differing states must comply with both state and federal laws. See 18 USC 922.

Cabelas is an FFL.

Some years ago one of my uncles offered to buy a gun for me just because he wanted to. We lived in different states. I thought about it for a while, decided that I would really like to get a new Smith & Wesson 57, blued, four inch barrel, target hammer, target trigger. Figured out what it would cost, he sent me the money, I bought it. I still have it, it will always remind me of him and his generosity.
