How clean are your cylinders?

What's not removed by Hoppe's n°9 & a nylon brush, stays on. It won't be much more than discoloration & will not impede proper functioning.
On stainless it CAN be removed with a "lead wipe-away"cloth (removes bluing !) or Remington's bore cleaner & a fair deal of elbow grease, though.

If I cleaned mine like that they would call CPS on me for abuse.

I keep the bores cleaned regularly, or yearly in some cases, as well as the individual cylinder holes and the face well what ever comes off after a good wiping down with some kroil and or solvent stays on. Mine are hunters and I have never had a critter complain about being shot with a dirty cylinder face.

Generally my most used get cleaned before and after hunting season or when they start to spread a bit on paper. Other than that as long as they still hit three consecutive shots close to or touching at 50yds I keep on trucking with them. I will however break down and give them a good bath if they or both of us take a spill in the muck or down a loosely packed dirt bank.

I just clean the cylinder face till it's just colored and not cruddy. No need to go any further than that.
