Saw a guy online today asking 200 bucks for an Ithaca 37 featherweight. With a short barrel and a 7+1 tube. It was manufactured in 1981.. and does slam fire which is fun but terribly inaccurate so I don't think I'll be doing much of that... maybe :)... Anyhow. I took it to the range, lubed it up and it fired very well. I like the bottom eject on it. How did i do? was 200 a good buy? I'm not too keen on shotguns. But I think I did alright. Condition wise the stock is really nice (maybe refinished) There's pretty substantial wear on the mag tube. a small scratch here and there on the receiver, which is very light. but otherwise a very nice gun. Oh it does kick pretty hard. It shakes the teeth :)

Nice shotgun. I think you did great. Ithacas have a good reputation. That one looks better than a Maverick 88 to my eye!

I think you got took. Since I have pity on people who got took, I'll give you your money so you don't feel too bad if you send me the gun.
Supposed to slamfire. You did great. One of the all time classic actions for shotguns.

Dang I'll give you $300 for it right now! Instant profit-

You did better than good! Run out and buy a lottery ticket NOW!!!

Around these parts, a 350-400$ gun, I'd say you did pretty well. I like the slam fire feature, I never use mine but its nice to know about.

Yeah its not easy to do first time around (i dont have the longest arms either, so If i really wanted to do it well I'd have to shorten the LOP, which I have no intention of doing)

I love the Ithaca 37. It's smoother and lighter than the Remington 870.

Bottom ejection and slamfiring are super cool. The Ithaca also has the only slide release on any shotgun I've seen that I can actually press without having to juggle the gun.

I've been looking for one of these. The riot configuration usually seems to go for $400+, so that's a steal.

That's a great deal on that popper... Can't tell if it has a recoil pad from the photo - if not you'll want someone competent to fit a good quality pad for you. Any 12ga riot gun will kick you around a bit until you're used to it (lean forward slightly and be certain to keep that stock hard against your shoulder to absorb the recoil as your upper body moves with the recoil and learn to rack the action during the recoil process....While I'm not a fan of the extended mag (preferring a simple four shot mag...) the wear your tube shows is what it should have for very little use.... Great find there and a very effective CQB weapon for any situation under 15 meters...

Recoil! Did anyone mention recoil?

Just choose the lowest recoil 2.75" 12 gauge 00B round:

With eight 50 grain pellets pushed along at a nominal 1145fps this load has but a gentle shove and the Flite-Control wad has the "choke built into the wad" for tight patterns!

LOL like i I said, It shakes the teeth ;) I like the gun a bunch. If they really sell for over 400 I'm super happy about it. I prefer the bigger mag tube myself. Cant ever have too much ammo. And it loads so friggin easy. I always screw my thumbs up on other shotguns after loading enough shells into them. This one is effortless.

How did you do?

I'd say very well. You won't find many shotguns for 2 big ones like that. I bet it does have a good thump to it too.

xxjumbojimboxx,

You might want to check the choke/muzzle diameter on that puppy. I have one just like it that measures .706"

For $200 I think you did great! First shotgun I ever used was a 20 gauge Ithaca Model 37. One of the slickest pump action shotguns I have ever shot.

Theres no choke in mine. Just the end of the muzzle... But what would the implications be?
If it's an older model, it'll be a fixed choke, not a screw in. IF it's choked, it should be stamped on the barrel. Some cylinder bore barrels may not be stamped.

I am not familiar enough with Ithaca to know if they marked their barrels with a choke. I know Remington did/ does.

Very decent price indeed, the shop I work at occasionally, has a very clean Ithaca with a 28" barrel but he's asking $400.00 for it. The turkey won't part with it for a penny under $400.

The M&P with long mag tube brings $400 to $450 which is more than standard grade hunting gun. Last one I have seen was boxed one for $499 though that one came from Ohio factory which is considered the best Ithaca 37 ever made.

Dang! I paid 250 for the standard tube gun someone had chopped the 19". Only Ithaca's that handled sweeter was the 16ga featherlight. Gave that to little sister as a first full size shotgun. Miss it already!

I figure it is fine for a single arm pump. As far as the Mav 88 comment. I'd take my 88 over most shotguns I see today. I have had it for over 5 years, zero failures, shoots slugs like a rifle, and has been know to win some money at the trap range. Oh! and the Mav 88 has a double arm pump (stronger) and will take screw in chokes for the Mossy 500, and is easily converted to a HD shotgun with a 18.5" barrel.

But you dd good with the Ithaca. Reminds me of my Stevens 520 my PapPa gave me.
