How did that get bent?

I picked up a couple of fixer uppers Navy revolvers cheap - an brass framedno name no proof mark 1851 Colt and a steel framed Euroarms 1858 Remmie. Both need work but the bores and cylinders look OK.

The Remmie has what appears to be a very amateurish repair on the cylinder pin to make it fit after being bent. I'll try to replace it of course, but I'm wondering how it got bent in the first place. Judging by the marks on the side of the frame, it happened when it was in place on the gun and the user had to hammer at it to get it out.... just how does someone bend a cylinder pin in an 1858?

Using smokeless powder of some type or over charge would be my guess..... but it is just a guess.

30 days before I left for Vietnam in 1968 I stood in my father in laws field and fired a very nice Centenial 1860 Army and a Uberti 2nd model Dragoon most of the day light hours. I fired them from the hip trying to teach myself instinctive shooting. I was shooting at a 20 inch plow disk and after 20 days or so of constant shooting I could hit the disk almost every time.

After thousands of rounds both of the pistols became very loose. I tried to tighten up the Dragoon with a homemade oversize wedge and broke the arbor. I ordered a new arbor and it came before I left. It was unthreaded and I could not thread it. I sent it back. When I got home in 1969 Uberti had sent me a brand new 2nd model Dragoon.

The moral to this long story is that young men with little knowledge can break anything.

Thanks for the tip about the Uberti parts - you answered my next question
