We in the colder climates have shot our last match for the year. Actually it was last month. I was determined this year to move up a notch in USPSA, almost made it. I think one more classifier will do it.

Starting last May my wife and I would go up to the range every Sunday and practice, I was shooting 200 rounds a week and she 100. By the end of the season I was getting some decent scores. I managed to get a third and two firsts in my division (L-10) Over all I am quite pleased, hitting the reloading bench and getting ready for next spring to do it over again. I even got over my complex about the Texas Star.

How did everyone else do?

The good news is we have just come into full shooting season here in Vegas. The summer matches are shortened affairs that start at 7am and end by 11am or so- since by noon it is well over 100 degrees.

That being said, since I got back into shooting USPSA in August (after a 5 year hiatus), I have gotten classed in Production and L-10 (only "C" unfortunately). My match placements are putting me in solidly with the good "B" level shooters- whereas when I just started back I was scrambling to keep up with the solid "C" shooters.

For those of you in colder climes, dryfire, practice reloads, test against a PAR time for draws, reload a bunch of ammo for Spring, and don't hate us Desert rats for getting to shoot all winter long.:neener:

I even got over my complex about the Texas Star.

LoL!!

There is a secret to the Texas star that very few know and that I am willing to share...

The secret is to ALWAYS be the one to RESET the star. By doing so, you develop a relationship with the star, a trust, and mutual respect. So when YOU get up to shoot, the star is like "Hey! I know that guy! He's the cool guy that is always taking care of me! I will drop my plates for him for sure!!"

:)

I just finish my first handgun match. I beat everybody in a company wide shooting competition[we are armored car guards] for the Texas region. It really wasn't all that hard though, the max distance for our competition was only about 10 yards. To think of all the ammo I spent at the 25 yard line for practice:D

It was a very busy one for me this year. Between IDPA and USPSA I mangaged to squeeze in 7 majors a quite a few local matches.

In USPSA I squeaked into B class and made Expert in IDPA. Had some pretty solid finishes at the majors but blew my chances at IDPA Nats. I managed a top 5 but should have won it.

I learned this year to not give away too many easy points, stay focused and RELAX.

Looking forward to next year. I haven't mapped out my goals yet but I do have some in mind.

Well I don't shoot the action sports. Bullseye for me. Last match I attended was... Uh, hmm... the Governor's Championship where I medaled in my class in spring. Yeah, Spring. My boys are pretty good athletes, with the youngest on a Baseball team that won state in their division then on to regionals. I spent more than a couple weeks of vacation towing the camp trailer to tournaments and hotelling it for others. I rarely miss a game. The eldest is on a challenge cup Soccer team that plays throughout the state and plays varsity for his high school. That takes up my weekends through spring, summer and into late fall. So much for my shooting career. But, indoor BE starts soon and I hope to go back and repeat my championship from last season. There were plenty of shooters on my heals last year so I don't think it'll be easy.

Time to order a case of rimfire ammo. This winter I'll also be hitting the reloading bench to have plenty of target 45acp ready for matches next spring.

After 20 years of competitive shooting I have to have hand surgery in a couple of weeks and will not be shooting for probably a year. I'm kinda bummed about that.

My season went well -top 10 finishes in the 2 GSSF matches I entered this year. No worse than 3rd at any of the local cowboy matches entered and also shot well in IDPA and some USPSA. Had a wonderful time and lots of fun with my fellow competitors. After all, that is what counts most!!

I improved my offhand from a 70 something to a 160 something in HP service rifle. Pretty pysched about that. Now if I can just remember to dial my elevation in, my last 300 rapid would not have been a 67, but rather a 188. Something to work on I suppose :)

Joeslomo, good one, so your saying is be one with the star.

I found if you take the top one first, it tends to rotate counter clock wise. Next the one at one o clock. then eleven, it darn near stays still at this point and finish off the rest.

I shot mostly IDPA this year:

1st ESP master at Louisiana State
Division champion SSP at MVSA regional
2nd place CDP master at Texas State
1st SSP master MVSA championship
1st master SSP at Mississippi State.

Not well. Seems like all our Boy Scout campouts are on match days. Did put a trigger kit in my XD, and it really improved my IDPA finish, in the one match I shot in.

I started off my skeet season by being placed in AA class due to my scores the year before. I did a few shoots, missed one because I went to Japan for 2 weeks, when I got back I found I was out of lead and instead of paying $50 a bag, I decided to just take a holiday from skeet. That was my season!

I can't complain with how my second IDPA season went.

Started off an SSP EX and ESP EX.

Won 1st SSP-EX @ MD State, bumped.

Got 2nd ESP-EX, VA State, no bump.

Placed in the top half of Masters at Nationals (12th)

Took SSP Div Champ @ Blackwater

I went back to the nationals with a lousy travel partner and it dampened my scores a bit. Overall, I won a few matches and touched on 2600-100x range scores four times out. I won three leg matches and a Custer medal and sadly missed the President's 100 again.

It would have been a better year if I had more time to travel in the schedule, I wanted to shoot the Gov's 20 and outdoor state champs but work cramped my style.
