So I was reassembling my 870 after a range trip and a cleaning and I screwed something up.
As I was attempting to get the bolt back in I couldn't seem to get it to go, so I noticed the safety wasn't on and pulled the trigger thinking that may help...:banghead:
So now I can't get this thing back together.

I had set the bolt on the forearm rails and slid it back, depressed the shell latches and it should have gone in right?

Anyone out there able to help?

Thanks in advance

Sometimes they are cranky about going back together. One of mine is a breeze to reassemble, another is a PITA.

IMO, pull the fore end + bolt and carrier back out. Reach into the receiver and cock the hammer. Line everything back up and give it another try.

There are a couple of things you might do.

First, try reaching in the ejection port and pushing the hammer back into the cocked position with your finger. Then put the safety on and proceed to reassemble the gun according to instructions in the Owner's Manual.

If that doesn't work, remove the trigger assembly and do one of two things.

1. Either cock the hammer and reinsert the trigger assembly back into the gun and follow the reassembly instructions in the Owner's Manual, or

2. Put the bolt assembly and barrel back in the gun without the trigger assembly and then insert the trigger assembly last. Be sure the hammer is cocked and the safety is on when doing this.

WOW

So... turns out I had the bolt in BACKWARDS!
Can you tell this is the second time I've put a pump back together?

Thanks for the help - I had to cock the trigger through the reciever to get it to work regardless of which way I had the bolt it.

Well I can say I learned something today.

Thanks!

A Pump should not have to be disassembled for cleaning more than once a year YMMV.
