I'm travelling from Chicago to Erie PA this holiday weekend and have convinced my wife that an 03A3 from the CMP North Store is a GREAT gift for my birthday (will keep my CMP Garand company). We'll have my wife and I, our 3 kids (aged 7 to 3) and my wife's aunt travelling in a mini-van for a 9 hour trip this Friday so a stop about 1/2 way will be VERY welcome.

Problem is, I can't figure out how to get there. Their website isn't any help and their address returns nothing on Mapquest.

Can anyone give me some guidance (I guess I could just call them but that would be against my inborn male fear of asking directions)

perhaps I'm wrong, but to legally buy a rifle from another state without going through an FFL, doesn't the state have to be bordering your own or something like that? I know the CMP can send it right to your house, but do they get a pass on counter sales, too?

While you are there, You HAVE to take at least one extra day and take the kids to Cedar Point. It is the best amusement park I have ever been to, bar none. This isn't an option.

I second 444's suggestion. Cedar Point is wonderful.

Also, in Port Clinton (where the CMP and Camp Perry is) you can catch the Jet Express and go out to Bass & Kelley's Island, where you can shop, go to a winery and enjoy the "Island Life". Very nice, if you're not into the amusement park thing.

As for how to get to Camp Perry, it's on Rte. 2, just north of Port Clinton, about 2 miles or so IIRC. Just ask around if you can't find it. Small town, everyone knows where it's at. Tell the guard you want to go to the CMP store, and DON'T bring any weapons onto the base!

Have fun, it's a great place to visit!

You will need all the items you used to purchase your Garand. I believe it's 1. proof of US citizenship -- like a passport or birth certificate, 2. Membership in an affiliated club - like Garand Collector's Association 3. Proof that you've shot in a highpower match. Along with some sort of ID like driver's license.

Please call them directly and confirm, but I'm pretty sure they do the background check right there and off you go with your 1903.

Camp Perry is just west of Port Clinton -- right on the lake.

The CMP is Chartered by the US Congress and is exempt from the "state to state" FFL requirements. Any member of a CMP affiliate club can mail order rifles direct from the CMP and have them delivered direct to their door..... ALSO, any CMP affiliate club member can drive direct to the CMP store in Ohio and buy rifles right then and there, no matter where in the US they may reside.

Note: All CMP purchase requirements must still be met whether the rifle(s) are bought mail order or in person at the CMP store.

Best to all,
Swampy
