I understand that it would probably be just like Dura-coating a rifle, but I have 6 surplus VZ-58 magazines that I plan to duracoat, but I believe the finish is painted on, and I hear you can't duracoat over paint.

Could I use paint thinner to take the paint off the magazines? And then duracoat the magazines like normal?

If anyone could give me some help, that would be great. Thanks.

since its high use it wont last. ive dont all my ar mags. if you can youd be bette off getting some kgguncote and prep it like usual. i use some 600 grit wet/dry paper then spray em and bake them at 350. if there polymer bake them at 150 for like 3 hours.

I actually kinda like the look of a magazine with a little wear on it. Makes it look like it has been used. I did a few AK mags in Duracoat, and was very happy with the result. If it is paint, you can use a paint stripper. Aircraft paint stripper would probably be the best. I'm pretty sure that you can buy it at most auto parts stores, and a spray can should let you do 3 or 4 mags. After you get the paint off, be sure to remove all of the stripper, and prep the metal as per the instructions with the duracoat. I recommend using a Pre-val sprayer. They are less than 10 bucks at ACE Hardware. I just got finished squirting 2 coats of Duracoat on a Mossberg 500 and still have about half a can of propellant left.
