How do rail covers fit on rails?

I've got 2 rail covers off the internet and can't figure out how to get them on the rails. They're plastic, and just slide onto the rails except one end which has a little metal clip in it. I can see how the clip would snug down between the bars and keep the covers from sliding off, but don't know how to get them on.

Anyone have these?

push hard in the center of the metal clip and it will cause the ends to move back so you can slide it over the rails
