I'm inclined to say "LAY-uh-pohld." But that's me.
HOP-peez : that's what I've always heard.
John C. GAIR-und invented the Guh-RAND rifle. Ain't it grand?
My M28/30 has a SOCK-oh barrel. Is it a "MOH-zin" or a "MOY-sin"?
"Nuh-GANT" or "Nuh-GAWWW(N)"?
A wooden shoe is a "sah-BOH". A "shoe" for a projectile is called a "SAY-boh".
I'd love a ZIG-ZOW-er Pistole, aber sie ist zu teuer!
Now what about that Austrian bullpup? Is it an "A. U. G." or an "AWWWWG", like the guy up at White Marsh Arms calls it?
And what is that cartridge used in the Garand? Ok, M2, but not "30- aught-six". Check the dictionary: "aught" means "something". Surely it's "30-NAUGHT-six." The "N" got lost when people slurred "nineteen-NAUGHT-six". (Sort of like "Mine Nuncle" became "My Uncle" back in Chaucer's day. Latin "Nunculus" , compare "avuncular".)
And what is the name of that RIVER? The one that starts in central Colorado and flows southeast to the Mississippi? The one that has a state named after it... no TWO states! How do you pronounce "Arkansas" as in "Arkansas City, Kansas".
etc. (by the way, that's "et KET-er-a")
