I love the idea that these people can't be trusted with firearms but they can be trusted to be part of society. If you can't be trusted to not shoot people you should be in prison or executed.

That's an entirely different subject.

How is it a different subject? We're talking about taking rights away from people permanently for crimes that are paid for in full. You commit a crime. You get confined until it's safe to let you out. Why is it not safe to let you have a gun once you're out?

I voted No Control because the controls in place... and any new ones imposed only make it harder for us law-abiding citizens. They do little to deter bad guys from getting them. What's the point in trampling our freedoms if said trampling does more harm than good. Even background checks do little good. Firearms are far too easy to get behind closed doors and in dark allies.

I'm happy that you are happy, even though disagreeing by 100%. Is this a great country or what?

By that remark I suppose you mean you subscribe to no control what so ever.

With that logic I suppose you would like ALL laws done away with and let anarchy reign supreme.

Well there went the great country you speak of.

The amount of receptiveness to so called "moderate" control is quite baffling.

If this same website had this poll 5 years ago, I imagine the outcome would be much different.

I'd also point out that "moderate" or "sensible" gun control has been what the Brady bunch has been pushing for for years.

How is your moderate different from theirs?

And why not grenades or explosives? Either they're for entertainment and self protection, which is right and just, or they're for threatening and harming others, which is wrong no matter what tool is used and will happen no matter what they law says.
I couldn't imagine being in a self defense situation needing a grenade. Lol My post is just my opinion on the subject, nothing more.

I voted for completely free. I mean thats how I want to be. To me the word "infringed" means to come in upon from the edges. This is exactly what every gun control act ever passed seeks to do: come at the 2nd amendment from the edges. I believe the founders believed that the people should be armed with equal type weapons to any standing army, so that when called upon the people could defend liberty and defend it effectively. To me this includes select fire weapons and other types. What we have here is not a Constitution failing to serve a society as is what the Left believes, rather we have a society that is failing to live up to its Constitution.
We are becoming less free in this country nearly every day. Whether its withholding federal highway funds until certain laws are enacted, or whether its dogs sniffing up innocent people at our train stations (VIPR teams), or whether its the FCC scaring the media into censorship, this country is rapidly departing from the free country our forefathers fought to form and protect.

As I said if you can't be trusted to not shoot people why are you out of prison?

Mayhap the perp was not in prison for shooting someone, mayhap he served his sentence for knifing someone, or some other means.

Ya know a little common sense could be used here!

If shooting people isn't their problem why ban them from having a gun?

You have got to stop talking sense or you'll be banned from this thread.

I voted #4

Think about it!

Most of us carry guns because of scary Jackasses that are potential threats, how many idiots have been denied a purchase because of reasons that are credible?
I don't work in a gun shop but have friends that do, they have little problem with the government weeding out some blatant morons.

I have heard some funny "straw purchase" attempts and other stories that would make us ALL appreciate a little control.

You logic isn't even worth my time to respond to, so I suppose in your mind that means you win.

Oh no I see the error of my ways. People who can't be trusted to own firearms are otherwise perfectly able to function in society. It makes perfect sense that we would allow people who would can't be trusted to not murder their fellow human beings simply walk free.

I voted for limited control, with the knowledge that we have no rights protected by the Bill of Rights that have absolutely no restrictions. I can bear arms, but I can't wave a weapon around in a dangerous or threatening manner, for example.

Some of you need to cool down and remember that you committed to some standards of conduct when you signed up at THR. Freedom and responsible behavior go hand in hand, remember your responsibility to keep the debate civil if you expect to be free to post at THR.

With the exception of violent felons and the mentally disabled, and those with known convictions of illegal drug use.

Please don't call me names, I don't conduct my posts in that manner.

Wonder who that one is who voted for prohibition? Why are you registered on a gun forum?

I did.

Who ever votes for the top one, why? If your on here you must like guns unless you signed up to just make that poll vote.

For fun. I am kinda wondering why the first two were even placed in the poll. I actually agree with the fourth one but it is such fun to be the devils advocate every now and then
