Been seeing a lot of the new Fusion 1911s Freedom Series for sale. I'm looking for a 9mm commander with the bobbed frame and they have their Riptide Carry+C that fits the bill. Are they any good? Haven't heard of them before. My usage will be a range toy and possibly carry if it's reliable. What are your experiences with their Freedom Series offerings?

I've never heard of them until now. I am in the market for a basic 1911 and was thinking of Rock Island but there seems to be a lot of hit and miss with them. I see that Fusion says there are no castings and no 2 piece barrels. But it never says that the frames and slides are forged. This is strange as most companies will straight up say that their parts are forged if they are not cast. Did anyone notice this on their website ? I may have missed something or misread it.

I had one of their 1911s. 9mm with a 6" barrel. It shot like a .22lr. Unfortunately, I made a bad investment into a business and had to sell it.

They sell both forged and cast, I bought one of their 'kits' about 5 years ago, built my first 1911, WAY more accurate than I am. It was forged, pretty expensive too. More than a few asked why I spent that much when Caspian were cheaper, (they aren't forged). Not sure that forged parts are all that much better if at all. Nothing but good service from them, spoke to the owner, Bob on a Saturday. The newer ones are cast and made to a price point, no reason to think they don't perform as well as the original forged pieces.

If you go over to the 1911forum you'll find a lot of info. on Fusion.

If you do some well worded searches, you'll find that they had some spotty quality problems in their early days and didn't appear to always make things right.

But there's no denying that Bob Serva knows his 1911s

I was desperate to get a DW CBOB when they were still $900, but missed the boat. I spoke to Bob about Fusion options and he was willing to answer my questions and very patient with my ignorance.

I remember the $900 DW CBOB. Unfortunately, I missed that boat too. They didn't stay $900 for very long.

The original CBOBs were cast frames. Fusion had lots of issues when he originally started them up but he has seemed to have worked out the issues and people report that they are decent pistols. At the price point I think there are better options.

What options would you go with? So many 1911 manufacturers nowadays. I'd prefer $1000 or less.

1911 forum deletes almost anything negative. Because every 1911 brand has their share of lemons. Just the nature of the modern 1911/2011. The whole forum would be endless complaining if they didn't.

Fusion is a very high end 1911. But like all high end 1911's, the slightest mistake makes them run terrible. If you dig deep enough you'll find these Fusion nightmares.

But it's unfair to judge all of them because of that. The ones that run are excellent examples of high end 1911's.

You can mitigate most of that by sticking to larger frames in .45.

Stock sights are great. Get the solid black trigger and melonite everything. Melonite rules. Just clean with oil, never with solvent.

Wonder if their pricing is for real, or a computer glitch due to everything being out of stock? Their website pricing is very fair right now.

Fusion is not a high end 1911. It’s not even close. It doesn’t make them a bad gun it just makes them what they are which is a small production house building production level guns.

They are no better than a Colt or SA. IMHO

Also cast versus forged is not a big deal. Caspian frames are cast. Ruger frames are cast and they all hold up just fine. All the wear and tear on a 1911 is in the slide and the barrel not the frame.
