How gun control debates should be

Heh. Another atheist? (If not, that's cool too, even a couple of our mods are Christians.)

Don't forget to post an "I'm new!" thread in the Lounge. And do feel free to say that Stiletto sent you. :D

An enlightening thread. I was most interested in the attitudes of those posters from the UK, Scotland and NZ...

Truly indoctrinated sheep over there. One guy just couldn't fathom what could have been done to stop the Dunblane shooter other than take guns away from everyone. The idea that one armed teacher could have taken him out was so foreign that he totally ignored the argument when it was brough up.

That said I wasn't really surprised by the blissninny index of the Europeans - once a subject always a subject.

The UK posters come from a different culture but it's still civil.

Even the Darwinists and ID proponents aren't hissing at one another. What's up over there, some sort of html induced non-corporeal Prozak, maybe?

Refreshing.

Very active moderators. Flamewars in general, ad hominem arguments, etc. are not tolerated.

That, and the forum is generally too highbrow for the script kiddies and DU types. :p

WE ARE CERTAINLY NOT SHEEP, DESPITE WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK AND SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the USA,there are more people who own guns and guns are less restricted to obatain-generally in most states-that I have seen on the American NRA website.Self-defence by gun is not scrutinised heavily and you can carry.Yes it is a good idea, to carry in case a psycopath does comes to your school or work-place with firearms and starts to shoot,-but here's the problem:Alot of civillians and cops don't like guns, they don't think about guns like we shooters do,guns don't ever enter their lives, unless they are robbed or confronted by a psycho, or when they attend a civillian or military shooting event.

It was the citizens of the UK who helped ban conventional assault weapons in 1988 after the Hungerford massacre in 1987 and handguns after the Dunblane massacre in 1996

The reason why we had these stupid bans in the first place, is because the Conservative government sold out the shooting community, to appease those who lost their loved ones in Dunblane and also because some people don't trust us with handguns anymore, not because of crime rates that seemed to make some UK towns and cities-the new Compton or South Central, in the FREE PRESS.

The IRA were using automatic weapons in the 1970s and in that decade us Brits could own anything a Texas citizen could.Because of these massacres it has frightened the government that anybody with a gun could go crazy and kill many people, not because we are Brits.:) :)

The GCN (Gun Control Network) was set up by Anti-gun citizens to prevent firearm-legislations changing in the future and to impose more restrictions and bans on the weapons that we are currently allowed to own. :fire:

From what Iv'e heard down-under in the wonderful land of OZ, there are a lot of shooters(sheep) who don't oppose the bans that, that idiot John Howard had imposed a decade ago.We Brits continue to this day, to fight everything that is thown our way, in terms of possible further restrictions and bans.

WE ARE NOT ALL SHEEP,SO PLEASE DON'T CALL US SHEEP WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW US ALL PERSONALLY.

IIRC, people were opposed to it, and the government estimates something like a 30% compliance rate across most states. England is hardly "better off" and "fighting with vigour". Winning back our rights in Australia and England will be very difficult. Sadly we don't lose our PM after 2 terms in office, he will last as long as he wishes to providing that the opposition here keep failing to show a united front and actually stand for something.

Rings true today!

The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object.

GCN WANTED THESE BANS PUT THROUGH PARLIEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:fire:  :what: :what:  It just gets worse everytime

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since 1999 the GCN has decided that it is still not happy with our restrictive laws and decided to draw up a list of weapons that they have decided are deemed inappropriate for civillians to use. These include: ALL CARBINE RIFLES (INCLUDING MARLIN, WINCHESTER, UBERTI ETC LEVER -ACTIONS, RUGER 10/22S AND OTHERS.) ALL MILITARY STRAIGHT-PULL RIFLES (THESE INCLUDE OLD STEYR MANNLICHERS AND OUR STRAIGHT-PULL ASSAULT RIFLES, LIKE OUR RUGER M-14 RANCH RIFLES, M4 CARBINES M16A2S, ETC. ALL SAIGA WEAPONS INCLUDING M3 ETC.

ALL SEMI AUTO AND PUMP SHOTGUNS , INCLUDING OUR REMINGTON 870S, 1100S,BENELLI M1S BENELLI M3S SAIGA12S AND FINALLY OUR TAURUS AND RUGER LONG-BARRELLED REVOLVERS.

IF YOU THOUGHT THAT WAS BAD THEN NOW, YES NOW, THEY WANT ALL OF OUR BLACK-POWDER REVOLVERS, INCLUDING THE RUGER OLD ARMY AND UBERTIS. :cuss: :cuss:

Although they haven't specified all of these makes they have specified the lever-action rifles, and pump/semi-auto shotguns, and all other repeating rifles.

WHY CAN'T ALL OF THESE TOSSERS GET STUFFED, BLOODY HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OLD JOHN HOWARD WOULD BE PROUD, OF THIS DRAUGHTED-LEGISLATION.

YOU'RE NOT A TORY MATE, YOU'RE A FRIGGING FRAUDSTER!!!!!!!!!!!

Just One more thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The GCN wants all forms of practical shooting-wheather shot with live-firing or air/airsoft guns-banned because it apparently teaches people to kill, as opposed to scoring points.

I think all of us should stand very firmly against these sodding anti tossers and try and stamp out their bloody rot.

WEREWOLF

THE UK INCLUDES:ENGLAND,WALES AND SCOTLAND, THAT IS WHY WE HAD A HANDGUN BAN-SCOTTISH CITIZENS ARE UK CITIZENS AS WELL, AND THEY PUSHED THE UK GOVERNMENT FOR A BAN, UNTIL THE GOVERNMENT COMPLIED.

Not to mention Dunblane is in Scotland (I live just a short bus and train ride from there).

Like the Brady Campaign, the GCN is deluded enough to actually consider their laws "Common Sense".

Sadly, unlike the Bradys, there's next to nobody left to stop them. A majority of people listen to their sh*te regardless of the truth, (Nobody really heard about Mike Yardley, for example).

If I wasn't sure about litigation, I'd do my site I was planning. (Well, that and the fact I've not done pages in a while)

Sorry of the doublepost, but there's something I found out from the forum where I quoted about Hungerford.

Here's the new quote:
Some time ago, someone put forward a suggestion that we organise a charity game and donate the proceeds to a charity or charitable trust which supported anti-guncrime projects and iniatives. I believe the proposal was that we demonstrate that while we were not anti-gun, we did have sympathy for the victims of gun crime and were keen to see a reduction in the levels of crime involving guns.

Having done some research over the last few days, on both the interweb and by phone, I have discovered that there were two major charities involved with the funding of anti-guncrime iniatives and groups. The first of these, The Disarm Trust, appears to have shut down among rumours of ineffective leadership and financial impropreity. All the numbers listed on their website are either unobtainable or are being used by some other organisation. Having talked to people where I could, no-one seemed to be aware of the organisation and no-one appeared to have a forwarding address or contact number.

The second charitable trust, Connected, is administered by none other than ... The Home Office. Having had a flick through the website, I found that one of the organisations that benefitted from the first round of funding was Mothers Against Guns (London). Is it just me, or does anyone else find it slightly irksome that the HO is actually funding an organisation that is trying to discredit and destroy the image of our sport, while trying to introduce legislation to do away with us?

Sorry for length and any language.

An explaination of UK contemptous terms (Also used in AUS AND NZ)

K-Romulus
I am going to tell you what the American translation is from the British translation, because I used these terms to get around the fact that offensive language isn't tolerated by many, in this forum and I would have a moderator after me, if I used universal vulgar-slang. Now other Brits,Aussies and New Zealanders might call me a spoilsport, but I will tell you the translations anyway. These are the nearest:

UK TERM: NEARSEST U.S. TERM
BLOODY GDAM
TOSSER/s J***OFF/s OR S.O.B/S,B*std/s
GET STUFFED SCR*WED, Something-off,something-yours

I hope this helps and it would be handy against any Brits who travel to the USA-on vacation, who might insult any unsuspecting Americans for fun.:) Also handy for watching films and tv programmes like:Snatch, Lock stock and two smoking-barrells,Layer-Cake, The Crying Game,Bridget Jones Diary, A Touch of Frost, The Sweeney(John Thaw and Dennis Waterman),The Bill,Burnside (D.C.I.Frank Burnside from the Bill)Bad Girls,Ultimate Force,Murphy's Law (With James Nesbitt.) and In Deep.(Nick Berry-Heartbeat, Stephen Tompkinson-Brassed-Off,Ballykissangel)
