A good Russian soldier would skoff at your womanly recoil pad. A good Russian soldier only needs his heavy wool greatcoat and a copy of Karl Marx for recoil control.

More like a copy of Lenin's writings, and add a deep swig of vodka!

I have shot my Mosins with nothing more than a t-shirt on. Hurts like hell after 100 rounds or so. Went shooting a few days ago, it was c-c-c-cold! My shoulder was only mildly sore after 100 rounds or so. Winter greatcoat padding it is! I also didn't have any issue with the short buttstock either, the Russians obviously designed this rifle with such heavy clothing in mind.

I was shooting my '43 Izhevsk, it put up a surprisingly good 3 shot group, with 2 fliers in 5 shots. I'd say well inside a pie plate at 100 yards.

EDIT: Here's a photo, shoots to the right just a hair. Doesn't shoot high though. 2 1/2" 3 shot group, 6" 5 shot group overall. Not bad for a rifle made in 1943, and ammunition made in 1980!

Mine doesn't shoot high. It's dead on a beer can from 20 yards out until you can't put a bead on the can anymore. I can sight in the center of a 6" gong at 100 yards off a rest and ring it everytime at 100 yards.

Here is how my M-44 shoots at 100 yards. One of the coolest ranges I have been to.

I haven't shot my Mosin in so long I can't remember how well it shoots. Since I finally got my 1892 sighted in, I will be able to spend quality time with the Mosin since I have been neglecting it. . .

I think both of mine shoot like six inches high at 100 ys , rear sight set at 100 meters.
The M 39 Sako was about 4 inches high untll i cut small shims from soda cans and added into the rear sight , unscrewed those two little screws. I fine tuned untl it hit 1.5 inches high at 100 yds. Rear setting set at the lowest 1.5 .
