i wrote an email to savage last sunday about no magazine with my savage 62 that i bought at walmart, i haven't heard anything yet. i can't call their number as my phone won't call long distance. how long does it take for savage to answer a problem after it is posted to their web site? i did get a confirmation email that they are giving it to a member of their staff right after i posted sunday. haven't heard anything since. thanks for any help.

seeing how hunting seasons in they are probably busy it took me a week or so to get a reply. I had a bolt action that was giving me issues and they sent me a return shipping label free and took it back and fixed it in a week. id say top notch. now I doubt they would send you a mag because they have no proof that it actually didn't come with one.

I don't know what I'd do if I were in your shoes. I never Email firearms manufacturers, never had any luck doing it that way. I always call.

i don't think i'll buy any more guns at walmart that have separate mags or such. my local walmart won't let you look in the box or anything. you check the display model which they won't sell unless its being discontinued, if you like the display they get you one still in the box but because it doesn't have a lock on it they won't allow it to be touched.

thanks otrman, my manual only list a long distance number, i'll give it a try monday,

I've only had to call Savage once- about magazine issues with a rimfire rifle. They were pretty awesome and sent me a new magazine (might have been two) free of charge.

Email always takes longer, especially with large companies. A week or two for getting an email response seems standard these days.

I had problems with scope rings / bases on rifle/scope package. Emailed them 3 times over 3 weeks, always got the auto reply but never an answer. Once I figured out THEIR problem, solved it and emailed them I fixed it they replied two days later that it was good to hear it was working and they send me a free magazine for my problems.

As far as Walmart goes, never had that problem with them. THEY have to remove the gun from the box to verify the serial number. At that time you could ask THEM to verify all required parts were in the box. I'm sure you did but lift up all the flaps in the box, sometimes they hide the magazines.

first thing i did was contact walmart, i was told all sales are final and not their problem. i called today to ask if next time i could look in the box to check everything, i was told no that i could check the display only. i tried to explain i wanted to check the contents not the gun as they won't let you touch a gun without a lock. i was told i can check it outside when its handed to me. so i won't be getting anymore guns at my local store, there is one about 30 miles might be better. i'll check with them next time. thanks

That suxs that you cant check the boxes. Our walmarts dont sell firearms or ammo here, well some may have ammo but ive never seen one. All other stores i buy firearms at expressly have you check everything because, unless there is a warranty issue (which the shop only send the firearm back for), once you walk out the door that firearm is YOURs, and they wont/cant easily take returns.

Id be interested to hear back as to what savage says, they have been more than helpful when ive had to get parts for my guns.

i was told on another forum that savage has a toll free number, i will call it monday. my manual only shows the long distance number, i'll call monday and let everyone know how it goes. thanks

i contacted savage, they said this rarely happens but does from time to time. the man i spoke with said in the 10+ years he has worked there only about 4-5 times has this happened with him taking the call. he said all the times it did it was from a chain store, so i'm thinking my mag is at walmart or a walmart worker needed one. anyway he was very nice and is sending me two mags for my wait and trouble, A+ service from savage and he said with hunting season was why my email hasn't been answered but he said he will take care of me with two mags and ship them priority mail. now when they come in this week i will shoot and update, thanks everyone

Now that's what I call service! Yeah, Walmart may be competitive with common firearms, but their gun sporting goods department service (usually) leaves a lot to be desired. I was at a local one years ago. Saw a rifle I liked, and asked to take a look. Had a lock on the trigger guard, my finger was nowhere near it. I pointed it at the ceiling, and brought it to my shoulder to check balance and pull length. I got yelled at by the woman working the counter. I said "If I can't see how it feels, I have no interest in it", handed it back, and walked out.

a lot of the chain stores are doing this. I will never buy another gun from dicks sporting goods because I purchased a savage mark 2 22lr from them and got to look at the one on the shelf and it had a lock on it, I asked him to take the lock off to check the trigger and he says its an accu trigger. I do the paperwork and get out to the truck and come to find out its not an accu trigger. For $119, wood stock, scope I figured why not. well I got home and the trigger is about 1/2 wide which feels odd and about 8lbs. called savage and asked to buy an accu trigger and they don't offer it as a replacement. called dicks to at least tell them they had the stupidest policy ever that I can walk into the store with a loaded 9mm on my hip but I cant check the trigger on a gun im going to use for precision shooting and hunting that needs a nice trigger. they said sorry cant help ya I should have checked before I left the store. I said the kid wouldn't let me said its policy.

Gander is the same. Won't remove the trigger lock. Like going to buy a car but the dealer won't let you test drive it.
