Haven't looked at one enough to figure out. Is it attached with screws or hard-soldered on? I'd like to be able to remove one on a scoped version if I get one some day. Thanks.
I'm setting here looking at my SRH. I've got a low mounted 2x Burris on it that just barely clears the rear sight. The front sight in no way obstructs scope view. There is a metal ramp on the front of the barrel that has a blade beavertailed into it. I'm guessing that if you press out the blade, there may be a screw for the metal ramp. The top of the front blade is 0.48" above the top of the barrel. WildAlaska customizes SRH's. He'll know how the front sight is mounted.
Don't force anything. On the end of the sight you will notice a pin. There is a spring under that pin. Press it with somehing. The sight will slide out quite easily while that pin is depressed.
As for why.. I have an interchangable front sight set. Comes in a variety of colors. I think I remember using my 2X Leupold scope once in the whole time that gun has been in production.
Truthfully, I like the looks of the huge revolver without the front ramp. It doesn't blend as well as I would prefer. Just my personal preference. My eyes demand a scope, and iron sights are superfluous in my case.
Oh, I didn't realize you meant the whole ramp. That's what I get for waking up so darn early in the morning! Sorry, I thought you meant the front sight post.
Scope is no good for my eyes, I just see two crosshairs.
Thanks for responding though. I just like the "cannon barrel coming out of a turret" look without the front ramp. Makes it definitely an eye-full, especially with a 9.5 inch tube. My buddies say I'm subconciously trying to make up for some shortcomings....what do they know though (grin).
