Anybody out there have recent experience for how long from purchase decision to getting the NFA item (submachine gun) into your grubby hands?

In this case, from out of state FFL to my FFL on a Form 3, then from my FFL to me on Form 4.

I got 5 stamps in December. 3 paper forms took 11 months. 2 electronic forms took 90 and 95 days. Make sure both dealers do electronic forms (can only be done if your Form 4 is for a trust not individual). Unfortunately I bought a machine gun in Nov on a paper Form 4 :(

I've dealt with a couple of dealers that are set up for e-filing. He should contact whoever he normally contacts at the ATF and they should be able to get him started on the process. I know that part of it involves having all your NFA firearm records in electronic form, because they've all got to be listed in there to do eForms on them. So it will involve some paperwork on the dealer's part to get set up. But it's definitely doable.

Latest data from NFA Tracker shows e-form times holding steady.

I sent my papers in on may 1 the checked was cashed on july 15 they sent out a forum to be corrected on 12/5 the lady i talked to on the phone said to expect 9months from the date the check was cashed.

I'm still waiting on paper form 4 from April (check cleared 4/15) and July (check cleared 7/22) :(

A buddy was almost exactly a year on a form 1 (Feb to Feb), but he needed to return corrections.

My Form 1 was mailed April 6 and I received my stamp today (February 8). 10 months.

I actually bought a commercial can before submitting the Form 1, but the check for it was cashed two weeks later. I think my dealer dragged his feet mailing in my forms.

Did a Form 4 in late February, 2013 that took 289 days from check cashing to approval. One submitted late March has not yet cleared. Is 309 day now.

Had a can Form 3'd to my dealer in mid December ... took 6 weeks and the sending dealer eFiled.

Your dealer can now to a paper Form 4 or a e-filed Form 4. Paper is taking more than 300 days now. The e-filed forms seem to be clearing in about 3 months and a week at the moment. I would expect that to get longer.

As I understand it, e-filing can be done for Form 3s by dealer and for Form 4 transfers to Trusts and perhaps corporations. Unfortunately, not all dealers will do an e-filing! Mine won't :banghead:

Man sorry this is kind of a rant, but I hate it when people title threads like this in such an ambiguous way such as "How about this?" or "Should I get this?" etc. It really wastes people's time by not giving a bit more details concerning what the question actually is. Please try and be a little more detailed next time you title a thread so people know where to go, or not go, to help out.

Just sayin! :)

How does my dealer go about e filing?

He also needs to read and follow the instructions/helpful hints exactly when he registers. Failure to do so will result in many headaches, delays, do-overs, and cussing.

Also, if it doesn't work with his version of IE then tell him to try Chrome or Firefox. It only works for me with Chrome.
