How low can we go? Help me mount my optic closer to my bore.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 youth model chambered in 308. I normally use Burris Signature Zee rings, but unfortunately the shortest 30mm rings they make are "medium," and I would like the scope lower on this particular rifle. All measurements quoted below will refer to the front mount.

Here's where I am right now; with Warne bases and 30mm Burris Signature Zee medium rings, the distance from the top of the receiver to the center-line of the scope is 1.028". I have over 0.200" of clearance between the bell and the barrel, so I can go a good bit lower. I am trying to find the mount that will give the lowest scope possible (lower is better because I may swap out my 42mm objective scope for a 24mm objective scope, which also has a 30mm body).

Here's what I've found:

1) Sticking with the Weaver bases is limiting, the lowest I can go with Weaver bases is about 0.988", which only lowers my scope by forty thousandths. Not worth it in my opinion because the rings (TPS TSR "W" 30mm super low) are quite expensive. I'm not saying the rings aren't worth it, just that I'm not willing to spend too much for forty thousandths.

2) The one-piece base/ring setups do not provide much benefit either, which was surprising. The one piece DNZ low 30mm one piece mounting system has a receiver to center line measurement of 0.980", about the same as the TPS rings (though slightly less expensive).

3) The Leupold double dovetail bases and low 30mm rings seems to provide the lowest mounting option, at approximately 0.855" from the top of the receiver to the center line of the tube. This is an improvement of over 170 thousandths -- now we are getting somewhere. According to my measurements this will still provide sufficient clearance between the bolt handle and eye piece.

Am I missing something? Is there another option that would allow me to go lower, or is the Leupold double dovetail base and low 30mm rings as good as it's going to get?

The scope pictured on the rifle below is not a 30mm tube one. BUT...I would stick with the Weaver bases on your rifle and get the Weaver detachable 30mm low rings as in the picture.

I've found nothing that will mount a scope as low as Weaver bases and Weaver Detachable Low Rings. Ebay has several sets of the 30mm low ones for about $25 up including shipping.

Remington Model Seven with Weaver bases and Weaver low rings...how low can you go :scrutiny:

I ended up going with the Talley lightweight one piece mounts. A little research showed that Talley is one of the few (maybe the only?) manufacturers who offer Vanguard specific bases. Most manufacturers mark their Remington 700 bases as Vangaurd bases, but from what I could find this yields seven thousandnths of misalignment between the the front and rear rings. Of course most scopes should account for this misalignment without issue, but I thought I'd be better off with the Talley one pieces.
