How many do load development at the range?

Lately I started bring my primed and ready to load brass along with a small press, a scale and all the other tools necessary to develop at the range. It's really nice to tweak the loads right them and there. I've done this in the past, but I kind of got away from it 20 or so yrs. ago, but I think I'm gonna start doing it regularly.

I use a hand press or three and used to do it allot. now my "range" is in my back yard so...

Sorry, I guess this thread got lost or something.

As for powder charges, I use a home made plexi glass cover, works great. I slide the the top over far enough to drop some powder, slide it back over and read the pointer.

I just mount the press right on the concrete bench using a large C- clamp.

I saw a guy out there the other day that brought a bench with him, seemed a bit much to be carting around though.

Didnt mean to turn the theead gamestalker, I just realized how lucky I am!
Sorry!

Gamestalker, I'm glad you posted this.

So for the guys that have done it....where did you measure your powder at? Inside the vehicle to block the wind? I have a truck with a top on it, so I could do it in the bed.
A cardboard box with clear plastic (panel or sheet) and two holes to put your hands in to manipulate the scale, powder and trickler.

(not unlike those isolation boxes they use in neo-natal intensive care wards or high-level radiation or disease isolation laboratories)

Completely isolate any wind, especially if the hand-holes had flexible seals or gloves incorporated in them. (edit: or even just sleeves)

More sophisticated ones could be built from more permanent materials.

Somewhere, I have a photo of some guy's reloading bench in his RV. That would be the ultimate! My club range even has an RV park, and you could drive most RV's right up to the longer rifle ranges.

Look on top of the cooler in post#4, I used a see through cake pan lid.

The box lost sheep is taping about sounds a lot lie a bench top sand blast cabinet.

I live far out in the country with no neighbors so I shoot, chronagraph and load different calibers almost daily, when I say far out in the country I really meen it last week their was a panther on top of my house, makes 3 times I've seen him I also have a pic from my game camera with 9 Black bears in a single picture they were having a buffet on my corn feeder.lots of coyots and hogs to test out bullets on. And I can shoot almost 2,000yrds from my upstairs balquney wich is where my Reloading room is. Its great.

I tried it years ago.
Even made this little hand press out of steel to do it with.

Unfortunately, the wind seldom stops blowing in Kansas from some direction.

And I was never able to come up with a stable enough way to weigh powder with scales.

So, I was shot out of the saddle on doing that, and after several tries?
I gave up on the whole idea.

Visit any registered benchrest match and you'll see plenty of loading at the range. Most BR shooters reload after every relay. Attached photos were taken at SuperShoot tournament a few years ago, with mass reloading done in big barn only a few steps from range. Others load in individual tents, campers, etc. near the range.

When practicing for the "Long Range" event of the "Masters" tourny (7BR, XP100) YEARS ago; a buddy had a van that we built a plywood work bench in, mounted a Dillon 550 press and associated equipment.
We were searching for the "accuracy load" out to 200 yds.
As RC pointed out; living in Kansas, even theoretically out of the wind, it was a challenge.

What did you come up with?
