How many of these people are there? And... do you think they use fake made up names? Dinner table talk was 1/2 the guys said no way do they use real names, etc....

There is no way they use fake names. If they're going to do that they're going to have fake signatures.

And it is around a dozen or so.

Telemarketers use fake names! Dohhhh
ANd.............??? Telemarketers aren't sworn law enforecement agents, and don't follow the same rules and SOP.....not really sure WHAT telemarketers using fake names has to do with the BATFE

Lighten up, was sarcasm... Interesting it's only a dozen... I'd have bet more. Wonder how long the background check actually takes if they were not backed up?

It amazes me when I hear how few people that there are in some federal agencies that have multi-gazillion doller budgets! For example, I talked the people at FTC about unwanted telemarketing calls and violations of the Do-Not-Call list and found out that they only have TWO investigators for the entire country!

Understand that the NFA Examiners are not the ones doing the background checks, they are just controlling the paperwork flow.

The background checks go to FBI. NFA branch is a pretty small group for sure. This is why they are, if the rumors are true, considering doing away with the CLEO signatures. Trusts take longer for the examiner to work through so if they could get fewer trust applications it would speed things up for them.

I've talked to several over the years and it seems to me that most of them could care less about being "pro" or "anti". They are just moving paperwork from one pile to another in a system that's been in place a very long time.

I've talked to perhaps 8 different ATF officials at one time or another. The thing that absolutely stunned me was their complete ignorance about guns! I had two come to my house and when I showed them a Garand, they had no idea what it was! And both were x-Marines! The same two insisted that one of my stock ARs was FA because the bolt didn't lock back when there was no magazine in it! They actually seized it and sent it to DC to be tested! In another case, they seized some guns from a friend of mine and one of them was a WW I Boy's anti-tank rifle that had been rebarreled to .50BMG. The ATF's paperwork identified it as an 82mm something or other. I don't remember the name they labeled it as but what ever it was was not a gun name. In fact, I searched and searched and I couldn't find that name used on anything, anywhere! The ATF still had the gun identified the same way when they took my friend to court two+ years later! Even the judge, who is a firearms enthusiast, was shaking his head when he read their descriptions! FWIW the ATF lost that case big time! Their so-called "expert" was a complete buffoon on the stand!

None of the ones that I've talked to don't really seem to either pro- or anti-gun but they are absolute zealots about doing their jobs.
