I'm likely alive because someone else's hammer snagged. Not an option, I know, but perhaps relevant to the conversation.

Well Erik I guess you are lucky the other guy met Mr. Murphy first.
If I absolutely have to I will carry a revolver in my pocket with a hammer spur but it won't be for very long.

vicdotcom - you're welcome and thanks for posting that link to "Old Fuff's" take on the subject. Very interesting.

I carry a Kel-tec P-32 but had been considering a Taurus revolver (one of the Ultra-Lite ones) but when I tried one today at the gun shop it snagged on the first draw from my coat pocket where I usually carry the P-32. As much as I like revolvers, I guess I'll keep my Kel-tec for now.

SP101 at appendix position. i draw with thumb on hammer and have never snagged. i've also not had to draw in a high-stress situation, so...

my rig is inside the wasteband 1911, I lift my shirt so high, you can see my right nipple... not all that differant than an open carry draw, my left hand is on my chest for 1 and 2

and the Kimber carry is prety snag resistant by design

Who is Old Fluff and what is his position on DAO?

While I would never speak for him, my understanding of his position is as follows.

Bobbed hammers are snag free and more likely to function from inside a pocket. As it is dangerous to try to drop a hammer without a spur onto a live round, bobbed hammered revolvers should be rendered DOA.

Hopefully I stated his position properly

I have carried snubs for a long time off and on they have all had an expose hammer and never had a problem of snagging it. I think this say alot since I carried one for 7 years undercover and have used many forms of carry. Inside the boot, ankle carry, just in the waist band of my jeans, pocket carry ect. I went back to a snub a few years ago and this time it was my first enclose hammer one, s&w 642. If I had it to do over again the hammer spur would of been removed from all of my past snubs. For me anyway it just make it so much easier not to have to worry at all about the hammer snagging. I can't say for sure but it seems I'm a lot faster drawing the 642 then any of the others since i don't need to make any adjustments to keep the hammer from snagging. My point is even if you have never had a problem and you carry the weapon for sd one without an expose hammer might still be the best thing.

be safe
