how many of you actually have just a pistol grip(no stock)

I had a pistol grip on a mossberg 500 and it was not useful for anything. I think it's still around here somewhere in a box...but it made the gun hard to aim and uncomfortable to use. I will not ever go that route again

They don't belong on HD shotguns, that's for sure!

(Maybe a legitimate use on door breacher shotguns used to blow door locks off, then dropped to go for a usable fighting weapon.)

A stock gives you much improved accuracy, fast follow-up shots if needed.

And at least 500% better gun retention if the BG gets hold of it and tries to twist it out of your grasp.

Don't do it!

If the bad guy grabs the muzzle, he can technically butt stroke you with your own fixed stock or collapsible stock if the sling has too much slack. Grab gun, yank forward to pull you off balance then shove butt into your face.

Rule #1, don't get killed with your own weapon.

It's real hard to butt stroke someone with their own weapon, or jerk it away and hit them in the face with it if they have the stock clamped tightly under their arm!
With one hand on the stock grip, and one hand on the forend.

Ever tried to do it to someone?

Not hard at all if all you have to hold onto is a little pistol grip.
You can gain muzzle control and twist it out of super-mans hand easily.

Maybe a PGO with a bayonet might solve that issue.. haha!!!!

I also have a Mossy I bought with a pistol grip. It didn't stay on there very long!

Unless its a Serbu super shorty, all my shotguns have, and will always have, a shoulder stock. Tried going PGO with my Mav88, but after a few rounds, the stock went right back on.

Agree with others.

Only good for a dedicated breaching tool or a AOW like a Serbu.

A birds head is a better choice if you want to give stockless a try though.

Better than a PGO but still not as good as a stock.

A shotgun with no stock is the most useless thing on our planet. A rifle with a folding stock follows or may even lead though.
There's no such thing as tactical ammo either.

While not a "shotgun" by definition, the Safety Harbor Keg 12 is fairly functional for taking small game.

I have taken a great many jackrabbits with mine using Federal Premium 3 inch magnum #2 turkey loads that use Flite Control wads.

Fired standing with the gun oriented in front of my face (aiming over the barrel like normal shotgun) the receiver comes nowhere near my face in recoil.

Granted, the vertical foregrip acts as a "brake" with respect to recoil speed and requires the "non" shooting elbow to take the brunt of the recoil.

Without the vertical foregrip, I would never let this thing get near my face.

Why do you need 3" turkey loads to kill rabbits?

It was the heaviest shot I could find (short of buckshot) that used the flight control wads.

The pattern with standard birdshot is quite thin in (at range) with a shotgun/AOW with a 7 inch barrel.

The Flight Control wads make all the difference on the world with respect to patterning in this thing.

Couple that with the reduced velocity of the short barrel, you need a whole bunch of heavier projectiles to penetrate deep enough to anchor small game at range.

Three inch Magnum #2's with flight controls fit the bill.

This one here was shot at a distance I care not to relate as most would believe it was a lie:

That lone blood drop above the eye was one of 7 pellets that hit the target and the only one that was fatal.

Standard birdshot wouldn't have had a chance of reaching that rabbit at that distance with this gun.

I've got one for my Mossberg 500 Flex only because it can be installed and uninstalled without tools for a buttstock. I don't keep the pistol grip installed. I have it for novelty reasons and to demonstrate to people how much more effect it is to use a buttstock.

Had this on a Rem 870 with 18' bbl. Sure got a lot of strange looks while shooting skeet with it.

I shoot #4 buck out of a Mossberg 20" screw in choke 12 ga. turkey barrel. Standard stock. The factory ammo has a plastic buffer in it. Good to 50 yards with full choke tube. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/18...3-full-modified-improved-chokes-vent-rib-blue

I do and they fit into places that a standard shotgun will not. Has a pistol grip on front and back; that makes a big difference on recoil. Not my primary defensive gun, just tucked away in a place that would not accommodate a long gun.

I shot a PGO shotgun owned by a college roommate. He thought it was super-cool. I thought it was painful to shoot and incredibly inaccurate, which is definitely not cool.

Serbu certainly sells a bunch of them just for this. Sorry for the crappy pic, but you can see it's in a quick access safe mounted in a closet
