How many of you have ordered a M1 Carbine

CMP says Garands are sold-out. :( All they have left are stripped receivers and non-functional drill rifles. They do expect to have some more by October '07. Here's their sales page for Garands: http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm
I got lucky and got my Greek Field grade in February. The field grades ran out soon after, and the rack grades soon after that.

And yes, I mailed in my order for an Inland M1 Carbine on April 27. The head honcho of CMP, Orest Michaels, said that they got so many orders on April 30 that it will take them until the middle of next week to go through the orders that were received THAT DAY.

If you want one, get you order in now.

I'm still envious of ScottsGT; to get THE 1911, where you know its history, including some "battle wear" (notice the rounded smooth edges), is, IMO, a much better deal than getting the M1 Carbine. At least to me, an actual issued GI 1911 is the "holy grail" of possible firearms purchases. NONE of the newer production ones would be anywhere near as valuable to me as that old one with the harder-to-use sights and spur trigger.

That being said, I'm happy with my Carbine.

I'm glad you said that. I was just anguishing over the fact that the carbines are moving so fast and I won't have the funds to get one for a while, and by that time they will probably be sold out too. I guess I should be seeking professional help :uhoh:

Are these m1 carbines available for everyone? do i need to join a specific club or something to get access?

Also, how old is the 1911a1 in the picture? It looks like a true relic!

As far as the 1911A1, it was born in 1943, First issued to Capt. O'Dell out of the box and carried by him until he left the US Army. I got it from his son. Capt. O'Dell was an MP during WWII and stayed in Germany after the war as an MP.

If you're absolutely in angst over not having a carbine.....I'll trade you for that 1911, old, obsolete, and rust-laden as it is....

The good Captain certainly took care of it. I'd choose that beautiful example of a WWII sidearm over an Inland any day. Now maybe an original WWII Rockola or IBM in that condition might make me consider it, but the scales would still be tipped pretty steeply to the side of the 1911.

You can't beat the history of that particular 1911.

Looks like Orest was right, they must still be opening orders from the 30th! Just got my email today, said they rec'd my order on the 30th. Now I can relax a little, I was worried it had gotten lost in the mail.

Not only did I get my order in on April 30. Not only did the CMP process my order in the next few days. But I received my M1 Carbine today! Serial # 64143xx with a barrel date of 11-44. Best of all, the Certificate of Authenticity is dated with my birthday!

I will put up pictures as soon as I can.

Happy birthday to me!

Sincerely,

Prof. A. Wickwire

You bastich!:neener:
I just got the e-mail that my order is being processed, so I should get mine in the next two weeks. When I sent my order in, I forgot that my last purchase was on last years range membership, so I had to send them a copy of my current range pass (for 2007). That delayed my order by about a week.

The CMP website is now saying they will cease taking Carbine orders after May 18th, if you haven't sent it in, express mail asap...

darn I won't have the money together until the end of the summer. Maybe not even then. On the CMP forum the owner was saying that it looks like there was enough carbines to last for a couple of years. Hopefully this is just a temporary stop. At least garands go on sale again in october.

I didn't.

I have 2 CMP Garands and ordered a DSA ST58 FAL in March.

Low on gun dollars.

I thought the carbines would last through the fall. I gess not.

Well, they've still got the other manufacturers that they haven't put up for order yet.

Guess they severely underestimated demand.

Got mine two days ago. Has a FAT 61 stamp on the stock. I assume it's an arsenal stamp from whatever country had them (Itally, IIRC).

On the way home...

Got my order in on the 30th. Took a week for the first email and today it shows as shipped!!!

532,XXX S/N built in Mid 1943. It's a dagone war hero!

I will celabrate Memorial Day by putting my M1 Garand and M1 Carbine through their paces! I love holidays that involve fireworks!!!

Yeah, kinda makes the guys who claimed that $500 was "too high" look a little silly.
