Thru my primary carry gun ...a 1911 in .45 acp ( about 200 rds a month - or at least a box a week....) thru that one gun ( its a Wilson Combat CQB 5" model ).
But I shoot about 12 boxes a week ...or 600 rds ...in a variety of guns ...
My primary practice gun is another 1911 ( same gun virtually ) in 9mm....and probably 75% of my practice is with that gun ..../ but I go to the range at least twice a week...for 2 - 3 hours at a time ....and run my tactical drills...in and out of a holster, double taps, reloads, etc....from 9' to 30' primarily...to a standard of under 3 sec out of a holster to double tap a target - and keep all my rounds in the "Tactical Zone" - Triangle from nipple to nipple --and belly button ....
Working on Trigger control, clean moves in and out of the holster, clean and consistent reload technique....proper stance, proper arm position, proper gun position for good reloading technique, proper head position, etc.....are all more important than how many rounds you shoot...
There is "rounds down range" ...."and good practice" ....and the two are not the same, in my opinion ! Its just like "Bulls Eye" practice or shooting ...is really no good for Tactical Shooting...they're very different skill sets. We all need good Defensive Handgun skills...and then develop your speed...and at some point recognize what quick is ...and what trying to shoot "Too Fast" is ...and train to that optimum level ...for your age, experience, your eyes, your strength, etc...at 62 now, I've been shooting a long time....and my eyes are not good now ...and my reflexes are a little slower than I'd like ...a little arthritis in my hands, elbow, shoulder ...a rebuilt shoulder...so where I used to be 2 sec to a double tap ....now I'm at 2.75 sec or so on average out of a holster...
so its not just round count ....( it is about budget for ammo ) ...but use that budget wisely and smartly for Good practice ...not just punching holes in paper....
The better question is ....are you practicing smartly !
