How many rounds a month (on average) do you put through your carry gun each month? I usually put 100 - 200 rounds through mine. So I am going to say 150. It is a Sig P290 BTW.

20-50, should be more, through a J-frame.

What I was doing before I took on a bunch of other stuff was about 100 of a handload designed to be close in feel and POA to my carry load: 50 with my normal grip and 25 each weak and strong. I need to get back to that.

A couple hundred every couple of months for my EMP .40.

20-50 every couple of months for my j-frame.

If one were to say (50) rounds per week (the yearly based fifty-two week would be 2600 rounds). This amount isn’t all that much as it would take 38.5yrs to achieve the mythical (100,000) round count that some shooters talk of.

I try to get to the range weekly if possible but of late it’s more like every two or three weeks. If I take my S&W MP9 with six magazines its 102 round shooting session and if it’s my S&W 4506 with nine magazines then it’s a 72 round shooting session.

It depends. Some months a few hundred. Since deer season started in October, I haven't pulled the trigger on anything but a deer rifle. It varies.

(I started handloading.) I am currently reloading .45 for about $.21 a round,

You really want to save some money? Start casting. You'll load .45s for about $.07 or $.08 a round. And that's not even buying powder and primers in bulk.

Some months I'll shoot 50 or so, other months zero. Fifty is probably more than the national average.

Thru my primary carry gun ...a 1911 in .45 acp ( about 200 rds a month - or at least a box a week....) thru that one gun ( its a Wilson Combat CQB 5" model ).

But I shoot about 12 boxes a week ...or 600 rds ...in a variety of guns ...

My primary practice gun is another 1911 ( same gun virtually ) in 9mm....and probably 75% of my practice is with that gun ..../ but I go to the range at least twice a week...for 2 - 3 hours at a time ....and run my tactical drills...in and out of a holster, double taps, reloads, etc....from 9' to 30' primarily...to a standard of under 3 sec out of a holster to double tap a target - and keep all my rounds in the "Tactical Zone" - Triangle from nipple to nipple --and belly button ....

Working on Trigger control, clean moves in and out of the holster, clean and consistent reload technique....proper stance, proper arm position, proper gun position for good reloading technique, proper head position, etc.....are all more important than how many rounds you shoot...

There is "rounds down range" ...."and good practice" ....and the two are not the same, in my opinion ! Its just like "Bulls Eye" practice or shooting ...is really no good for Tactical Shooting...they're very different skill sets. We all need good Defensive Handgun skills...and then develop your speed...and at some point recognize what quick is ...and what trying to shoot "Too Fast" is ...and train to that optimum level ...for your age, experience, your eyes, your strength, etc...at 62 now, I've been shooting a long time....and my eyes are not good now ...and my reflexes are a little slower than I'd like ...a little arthritis in my hands, elbow, shoulder ...a rebuilt shoulder...so where I used to be 2 sec to a double tap ....now I'm at 2.75 sec or so on average out of a holster...

so its not just round count ....( it is about budget for ammo ) ...but use that budget wisely and smartly for Good practice ...not just punching holes in paper....

The better question is ....are you practicing smartly !

I looked at casting, the two things that stop me are;

Handloading is a hobby on top of shooting. Casting is a hobby on top of handloading. The garage of the place I am in has one outlet, on the other side of the room from my bench. Right now Delta Precision sells FMJ bullets for less than most places sell plated, if I want to try to bring down the cost some more, I'll buy some of those bulk.

The other thing is, I don't like the mess that the bullet lube makes in my guns.

I try to put between 50-100 rounds through my carry weapon with AT LEAST 1 magazine being the actual carry ammo. Ball/FMJ/practice ammo is in the same grain weight. Ammo budget is tight so I make the most of my range time when I get it to include stress shooting, uncomfortable shooting, drawing etc. I never go to the range with the intent of pinpoint shooting using perfect stance, calm breathing or other "ideal" conditions. I find rainy, wet, bright sun and cloudy days to practice.

About 150/month through my primary carry, another 3-500 through others with the same manual of arms. More than I need to, less than I want to - I enjoy shooting!

When I was initially transitioning to Glocks, I shot 1k/mo developing muscle memory. Now, 50/mo/gun would probably maintain proficiency.

Twenty five rounds total since I got the gun. Tested ten round magazine and 15 round magazine. It worked out pretty good for me.

Through my actual carry? I shoot about 100 a month to give me a reason to clean it and make sure its working. Most of my shooting is done through an identical G26. Between the two I shoot about a hundred rounds a week.

20-25 a month maybe more, say no more than 50.When I "train",I go with a purpose and goals in mind and keep a training log book.I do dry firing and draws, reloads at home.I can do building searches, vehicle stuff with empty guns, blue guns or air soft.

Ammo is very expensive now days and I do not get free ammo any more.My operational budget has to be mean and lean.

I shoot a lot more "fun" guns now, maybe 500-1000 rounds combined a month. I know of a large PD that only shoots 30 rounds a year for their officers and they think they are highly trained.

Outta the J-Frame I carry the majority of the time, I probably average 50 rounds a month. Sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the weather and what else is going on. Outta all of my handguns together, I average about 500 rounds a month, sometimes more, sometimes less.

It depends on what I am doing and working on. With my CCW gun I like to train, not just shoot. I try to do live fire once a week. The last time I shot I put 300 rounds through it working on some trigger control and reset stuff mostly. Other times I might shoot only 50-100 rounds.

I also like to do 15-30 minutes a day of non live fire training. Things like working on my draw stroke, weapons manipulations, getting in and out of positions etc. I believe this training is very beneficial and a good way to develop important skills when one cannot because of other constraints (financial, time, facilities, etc) do live fire training.

Only about 50 right now due to kids and budget. Only getting to the range about once every two months. Dry fire it often though and haven't really noticed a dropoff in accuracy (not that I've ever been that good) from lack of live shooting yet.

try to get a box of 50 through the carry gun every month. Carry guns rotate, and it doesn't constitute all my shooting, but winter guns and summer guns for me are fairly consistent. So I try to get them the most action in those cycles.
