How many rounds have you put through your sks? When did you start to notice accuracy deterioration? What is the average barrel life on these rifles?

Thanks,

Ryan

Don't worry, you won't be able to outshoot your barrel. Chrome bored SKS's will go to about 50,000 rounds.

I have a 59/66 that i thought was shot out i made a electric bore cleaner cleaned the barrel with it and worked it over with some J-B Bore paste with reloads it now shoots 1 inch groups at 50yd. It always shot more like a shotgun than a rifle.

I own a "frankenSKS" assembled out of multiple parts though the barrel, as far as I know, had never been fired prior to my assembling the gun. I learned how to do work on the trigger group and got the trigger about as good as an SKS trigger is going to get.

By pure chance (certainly not due to anything I've done to it) the rifle displays excellent accuracy and I've been told by others that it is much better than the average SKS.

I've run somewhere around 1,800-2,500 rounds of Wolf ammo through it.

On an sks, accuracy doesn't matter. The thing doesn't shoot that good anyway, you'll be lucky if you get MOA at 50 yards. I have a five shot quarter sized group at 25 yards using the back of my left hand as a sandbag. You will lose most accuracy after the barrel warms up anyway. My suggestion, shoot it and have fun.

I bought an unissued Yugo about 5 years ago. Since then I've put about 5,000 rounds through it. I noticed the poor accuracy of the gun after about 3 shots. It hasn't gotten any better or worse.

esmith,

I would dance for joy if I could shoot 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards with any SKS, for that would be 1 MOA at that range.

Did you mean shoot one inch groups at 50 yards? That would be 2 MOA.

Even that would make me pretty darned happy with an SKS, even with Lapua ammo.

MOA is an expression of an angular messurment and is only 1 inch (or actually a bit more) at 100 yards. 1 MOA represents 1/2 inch at 50 yards, 1 inch at 100Yards, 2 inches at 200 yards, 2&1/2 inches at 250 yards, 3 inches at 300 yards , etc ect.

Group size in inches only aproximates MOA numbers at 100 yards.

MOA measurments represnts the cone of fire produced by a firearm.

ANy relation to Psmith?

I've only run about five or six hundred through mine.
Seems pretty good so far.
I've had some pals (shooting newbies) tell me they got it to stovepipe but I didn't see it happen. They also got my Mosin to jam somehow :uhoh:.

In Soviet Russia rifle jams you.

I have about 1000 or so through mine. Not a tack driver under best of circumstances, around 4-6 inches at 100 yards with cheap junk, seeing what can be done with reloads.

I have never read about an SKS barrel being shot out, chromed or otherwise. My guess is that it would only happen in the most strenuous combat conditions.

Several tens of thousands, at least. I don't know of anyone who has put that many through any single rifle.
