How much brass to save

Hmmm… well, after complaining here about having so much brass I can’t store it safely, I just asked in another post for all the S&B and Fiocchi .38/.357 brass the poster was taking off to the scrap heap.
But it’s not an addiction! I can quit collecting brass any time I want to! 🤪
Sure you can. So can I. But, I was at the range today, and the 9mm was just laying around everywhere, and I remember when it was hard to come by, so....hoping to find some 380 in the mix....

In all seriousness, if you need .380 I can send you some. Not a lot but enough to tide you over. PM me and I will get a flat rate box going.
Dude, thanks - I really appreciate that. I have enough for my needs - it's just that finding 380 laying about is always a treat, compared to the amount of 9mm I find.

Today I brought 2 coworkers out to the range - one is in the army reserve, a new dad, and rarely gets to shoot, the other is completely new to shooting. I'm glad to be able to pass along the favor of the shooting tradition. So when I say thanks, I really mean it. A couple people did the same for me many years ago, and now I'm blessed to be able to do the same for others.

I Am A Range Scrounger! There I said it. Now it seems that I have many, many coffee cans of the various calibers I shoot full of empty brass. More brass than I'll ever load in the years I have left. Can't seem to let it go tho, even the cans of brass for calibers I don't have, (somehow i even have 13 .50BMG shells). Am I alone in this or are there others like me.
I pick up every caliber if it is good condition and generally use them for trading after decapping and cleaning. A few months back I picked a crap load of 444 marlin which I do not shoot. I was able to trade 1 for 1 for some 45/70 cases. in pistol rounds I shoot 9mm, 40 caliber, 30/30 and .500 S&W. I have several 45 caliber ammo boxes of the each of the rounds. I also picked up tons of 45 APC which yes, a range rat too.

If I see brass, I pick it up. Back when .40 was the rage I picked it up, now it isn't the rage and I'm glad I have what I have. Same for .45 acp. Once a month I shoot our clubs action pistol event. There isn't time to pick up my brass while shooting and after tearing things down my old body just wants to go home.

When I visit the indoor range, my brass forward of the line is gone. The stuff I picked up at the club eases the pain.

Bless you revolver shooters that leave your .38 and .357 at my club. I wish someone would shoot .44 spl.

I pick up everything I see. Know how much a 30 gallon trash can full of .22 brass is worth? I just turned one in at the recyclers. It all adds up. If I can't use the brass I swap, sell, or gift it to new reloaders. Selling it for scrap is a distant last resort. I have a 2 gallon bucket of each type that I work out of and at least a five gallon bucket in reserve. For shotgun it is a 5 gal bucket and a 33 GAL trash can of each. I have on occasion given away brass and bullets on here to get someone up and going as well.

There is no set amount of brass on hand, same as there is no standard reloader. We all have a different idea of what we need.
Wonder what you could get for the 22s selling to guys making there own 22 bullet jackets,

Several years ago, on Christmas Day I weighed all of my brass that I will reload for. I came up with over 385 lbs of brass. I have 30-06 military cases from when I was 12 years old, and I was reloading for my dad's 1903A3. Some of my 30-06 cases.

when i sweep my brass, naturally other brass gets swept as well. when i get home, i tumble the brass, to remove the floor dirt, then remove brass i don't need and throw it into a 5 gallon pail to take to the recycling place.

i then process my brass, (clean/polish) and check for possibly military brass that'll need to be swaged, and seperate those, and toss them into 2 pound coffee cans, by caliber and brass that needs to be swaged.

takes only minutes.
