How much did you lose in the "panic season"?

Impureclient Thread title: How much did you lose in the "panic season"?
Come in and post about how you sold ARs and .22 ammo for exorbitant profit. Yup, that makes sense.

I had stocked up plenty of ammo beforehand and just shot very sparingly through out . I only bought rimfire bolt action guns, so no loss here.
Of course I didn't sell anything as I detest taking advantage of others in bad times. My conscience is clear
It's called capitalism.;)
It's not unethical, illegal, immoral or taking advantage of others...........it IS the law of supply and demand.

I have zero sympathy for those who didn't learn from the 2008-9 Great Ammo & Gun Panic.

If you paid $100 for a brick of .22 you have only yourself to blame.

I stocked up ahead of time. The first year the only thing gun related I bought was a safe. I shot the same as I did before the panic. By the second year I started buying ammo again. I could have and should have held off a few more months on that so over payed on some 9mm.

I don't think 10% is too much to make for having the foresight to see what was coming. I could have made a lot more than that if I had tried. I actually spent more than I should a few times but all together I'm sure I didn't spend over $100 over what I normally would have paid. I didn't have to do that. I could have sold the ammo I bought before the panic for at least double and maybe triple what I paid for it if I had been inclined. Remember that those people making 10% are going to have to re-supply themselves at prices that are higher most likely. Maybe they have enough of what they need but maybe not. If I had sold my ammo at 10% over what I paid for it I would have lost money when I got around to buying ammo that I needed eventually. I'm still holding out for prices to come down but that may take a good while. So if I sold some of what I had for 10% profit then shot up the rest I would end up losing money on that ammo I sold because I would likely have to pay at least 33% more to replace what I sold. If I had needed money bad enough I would have sold my ammo for more than a 10% profit in fact. I'd probably sell it for the best price I could buy it for. So if I couldn't find bricks of .22 for less than $50 I'd be selling what I had for $50. In the long run I wouldn't be making anything on that deal actually. But like everyone who was into guns in 2009 I made sure I had the ammo I needed to last me a good while and I was set when the next panic hit after Sandy Hook. Now as long as that boat with my safe in it doesn't sink on that deep lake out back I'll be OK. But the fire did a number on that boat. It could go down at any minute.

I bought a Remington 870 for 200 rounds of federal American .223. Guy just had to have the ammo right now. I even told him no 2 times, but he was insistent.

I remembered the last time and was well stocked up prior to this time. However, I was so well stocked up that I was able to make some trades that were much to my favor. I even traded some 7.62 x 39 ammo for a very nice piece of art that a local artist had for sale, much to my advantage.

I hope everyone has learned to stock up and don't let yourself get down to that last box of ammo or the last pound of powder. History does have a bad habit of repeating itself.

I dont think I bought anything...

I did consider selling some of my AR mags, but decided againt it due to my opinion of scalpers, and not wanting to join them.

I regret not selling a Mini 14 and a bunch of Ruger 20 round mags for a nice profit.

And I sold off about 4K rounds of bulk pack .22 ammo I didn't want anymore a couple months before the panic. Had I known I was sitting on a gold mine...

At least I didn't pay scalper prices for anything, and I was well stocked for ammo so I could continue to shoot like nothing had changed.

Didn't lose anything. I did lower myself to buy Wolf handgun ammo with steel casings though.

I haven't lost a thing.

In fact, I've gained quite a bit. Like my Colt SAA, 5.5" barrel, color case hardened, in .45 Colt which I got for (insert drum roll):

NOTHING!

Not only did I gain this beauty without spending any money out of pocket, I also ended up with $69 to go along with it.

Top THAT!

BWAHAHAHAHA!

ok...I'll bite. How did you come about with such a deal?

Perhaps someone passed away and left you the SAA along with the cash stashed in his sock drawer?

Ammo prices hit me a bit during that period (but really it was just preferring to find/pay for cheap practice ammo--I have a decent supply of competition ammo (prior to the panic that is).

However, in a silar manner I just padi $200 more than I could have a few months back for my Vepr--course this was (still is) due to BHO's ban on Russian AK's and the like mirroring the ChiCom Ban...

I know lots of guys that lost their rear-end on AR's during that time--but life's too short to worry about water under the bridge so to speak so long as lessons are learned...

Oh, I wish!

But no...the out-the-door price was $1,331 for the gun when I ordered it at the LGS. It was paid for by a combination of credit card rewards points, travel pay, and various cash gifts (from Christmas, birthdays, etc). I had a total of $1,400 to spend, which meant I had $69 left over.

Not one dollar was any part of my income...so I count the gun as "free".

How do you like them apples?

:D

Overpaid by about $50 on some brass and pull down bullets
Made $600 or so on .22lr sales and bought a nib remington 799 with the money. Other than that, nothing to report

I just didn't participate. Guns are mostly a hobby. I shot my home defense gun 3 or 4 times and shot skeet a handful of times but I didn't panic buy. Almost sold some magazines but just held on to them.

Now, this year I've bought a handgun, two shotguns and built an AR and I'm about to start putting all my extra money into ammunition. Guns are pretty cheap right now and ammunition is almost there.

I just laid low and emerged when it wasn't so crazy. My fun money isn't limitless so I just have to be smart with it.

I actually got in at the end of the panic, and the only "loss" you might consider for me is paying too much for ammo for my 22 rifle, but it's still cheaper than everything else.

Actually the panic helped me justify an AR15 to my wife; "See, these were selling for $xxx and I can get one for $x. Think of it as an investment!"

Not a dime.

Not once did I accept to overpay for ammunition, and I gave up on .22 LR when I first started seeing prices like $15 per 50 rounds. I also didn't rush out and buy guns, I already had the ones I wanted.

Loss? No. I had to wait for a parts kit I ordered for 7 months, and due to pending legislation I bought more magazines than I would have (but did not get gouged).

I spent FAR more money on RKBA politics than I ever have previously in a single year.

Right there with you, Rob. I bought four Pmags for about $20. I also purchased about 15 other AR mags for their normal street price.

Did I overpay for the Pmags? A little. Being in CO, did i have a choice? Not as much as i'd have liked. Well, with any luck i'll be able to overpay as much as i want for 30 rounders come November...

Became too disabled to use them so I sold my two AR's . I put them on GB auction and they sold for double my purchase price.

I'm still working off old stockage in ammo because I don't shoot much any more. The last .22LR I bought for $10 a brick , the ammo I bought just prior to that was on sale for $7.77 a brick . (Winchester white box.) along with other .22 Rimfire ammo I have enough to last me until the end.

Last .32 S&WL I bought at $8.15 a box of 50 delivered to my door.

Won't bore you with the other calibers, but I am unlikely to use up much more ammo anyway, so I have enough of everything I need.
