Like others I have my own range out back; pistol range and rifle out to 600 yards. It's not free though. I've probably got about 8K tied up in berm work, gravel and steel targets. Then you add:

Time (I'm the range maintenance guy)
Gas for mowing
Spray paint for steel (heck based on some of your replies, I spend more on spray paint than your memberships!)
Mortgage on 80 acres/house.

I'd be better off financially joining a club, except the nearest one is now 35 miles away.

But hows' that saying go; "doing whatever you want, whenever you want............priceless".

Living in an urban area, the only handgun ranges I have access to are those at some LGS and a private pistol club of which I am a member. The club has 3 indoor ranges that as a member I have 24/7 access to unless something is already scheduled for the range in question. Ranges are heated and air conditioned once you turn on the heating or the a/c so at worst you are waiting about 10 to 15 minutes for the range to reach a comfortable temperature. Cost right now is $228/year which is not cheap, especially for guys like me who average only about once or twice a month. You have to be an NRA member to join, and take a basic NRA pistol class, and I believe we have over 800 members right now.

My membership dues at my gun club are $20/year. In a few years when I turn 65, my dues will be waived for the rest of my life.

We have an indoor .22LR range(rifles only, no semi-automatics)). A 200yd rifle range (7 benches...5 covered)with target frames at 25, 50, 100 and 200yds.

A 25yd handgun range with target frames at 7, 15 and 25yds.

A shotgun /clay bird range with 4 stations.

Both my son and I have memberships...he transitioned from Junior member to Adult member when he turned 18 a few years ago. Because he was a Junior member, he did not have to pay the initiation fee($100).

Lake County Rod & Gun, $100. per year + 15 work hours. 400+ acres, pistol range, rifle range, Trap house, camping, fishing, and annual picnic. Also only 200 voting members.

$15 for yearly and $150 for lifetime. We have 10 covered benches and 6 inside benches for 300 yard rifle range, pistol range, 1 trap house with another trap house and 2 skeet fields under repair. These have been setting idle for quite sometime and the machines are 40-50 years old. We also have a running deer target that we shoot at occasionally. We are also a member of a archery league that have shoots every Sunday at different ranges. We host 6 of these a year. We do have target bags set out for members to shoot at anytime that the ranges are open.

$300 facilities fee when you join, $100 annually. 200 yard range, covered firing line with ceiling fans for the summer. Large clubhouse with deck any member can use just by reserving it. Stocked pond. All members have combination to the gate, so just come/go as you please. I often have the whole place to myself when I shoot.

Dinner served at the monthly board meetings, so I eat my annual dues.

Range is owned and operated by the city of Casa Grande, AZ. They lock it up at night, open it in the morning, clean up the debris, change out the porta potties, and generally maintain the facilities in a decent condition. Two photos of two of the five firing lines.

Cost to user - free. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

I'm good with that. ;)

I am a life member in one club but its 400 and some odd miles one way. Haven't been there in awhile. Closer to home landowner member of PHA. I support a local club ($50.00 per year dues) that leases land but its only open from Friday morning to Sunday sunset. That said I have my own range which is basically for handguns. If I have my property timbered I'll think about a rifle range.

I belong to two clubs. The first is $75/yr, which gives me access to seperate covered 25yd/50yd/100yd outdoor ranges, a 10 lane indoor pistol range, indoor and outdoor archery ranges, and trap/skeet. Paper targets only, no holsters.

Second range is $35/yr. It is basically a private quarry with a covered 100yd range. However, we can shoot any kind of targets we want as long as we clean up, and we can wear our holsters. Plus, you are very likely to have the place to yourself when you shoot. Good times!

Today I paid $38 to shoot at the closest indoor range to me. That is $25 for the lane fee, $10 to shoot two boxes of my own ammo, and $3 for targets. I could become a member for $125 and then the lane rental fee drops to $15.

Yes, it sucks but is the going rate in my area.

Our range charges $60 per year, or $8 per day. And if your military you get a 15% discount.

But most of the time I just go out on the public lands with my target boards, which beats having to worry about getting constantly swept by careless individuals.

Bought lifetime membership 15 years ago for less than $200. Out to 600 yds rifle. Close as ya want, to 75 yds on pistol. Has trap, skeet, archery.

Brandy new indoor range 30 minutes away. New membership $400/year or $35/month.

Kinda nice when it's in the negative digits, but only has a 25 yard range. Next year may just join for the colder months, which is half the year up here.

My local gun range has a "free" day the first Sunday of each month.

For my purposes , that works well for me.

I get all I need done at that time.
