Went to local gun store to look for a .22 pistol, for cheap shooting/target practice, etc. I narrowed it down to a Beretta U22 Neos, Buckmark or Ruger. The salesman showed me a used Ruger 22/45 (NOT MK model) with 2 magazines. Price was $300. I told him I'd think on it.
I know Ruger is a great gun. So is a used 22/45 worth $300? Would I be better to buy new?
What is the difference between a Ruger Mk I, II, III and a Ruger 22/45 model?
Anyone know whether $300 is a reasonable price for this gun?

$300 is high. $250-275 is better. The Mark I was the second labeling of the Ruger Standard pistol. Not much difference between the Standard, and the Mark I. The Mark II added a last shot, bolt hold open, and some style changes. The Mark III added a magazine disconnect safety, and a loaded chamber indicator. The 22/45 was designed to replicate the feel, and controls of the Colt 1911 style pistol. It also has a polymer lower. It was offered in the Mark II first, and now in the Mark III configuration. All are great guns.

The Mark III added a magazine disconnect safety, and a loaded chamber indicator.

And also moved the mag catch from the heel to a thumb button. And thus requires new magazines should you have a MKII.

The 22/45 MKIII added the dubious loaded safety indicator and and magazine disconnect safety. The link shown is for the new MKIII, a fair number of folks are willing to pay a bit extra to not get the "improvements" for the older, out of production model. I do prefer the 22/45 MKIII grip over the older model. YMMV.

I have a MKII era 22/45 just like that along with three other MKII (steel framed) Rugers. I won't buy a MKIII due to the changes. If you can get him down to $250 that is a much better buy. For me the MKII is worth a premium over the MKIII, but not that much. They are great shooters.

This summer, I paid $319 for my NIB 22/45 target with removable grips, the dealer sweetened the deal with 200 rounds of CCI Mini Mag.

The new hammer bushing that allows removal of the magazine disconnect cost me $15 shipped.

IMHO, you can do better.

Welcome to the forum and I have seen the exact model of pistol sell used, in a proper gun shop, for $250 and it had box, papers, and a spare magazine.HTH
