I was hoping to go to the range to shoot some handloads that I've been working up, but it is a bit windy. The tops of the trees are swaying a bit (don't know what wind speed that correlates to). How much will the wind affect groups at 100 yards? Thanks.

ETA: Bullet velocity will be 2800+ fps.

I have fired crew served weapons in the military where the wind speed and direction have changed from muzzle to target as many as 3 times. Firing from one mountain top accross a valley and to a target on a hill top @ 2000m.
Wind speed and direction can really do some funny things.
At 100 meters and without some more detail from you there are too many variables left without detail.
Will windspeed and direction effect accuracy at 100m certainly.

Thanks for the replies. 180 gr. .308 Nosler BT, Hornady SST, and SGK. Fired from Ruger M77 Hawkeye .300WM.

I'll try the calculator.

For what you're shooting, not much and hardly worth worrying about. Not at 100 yards, anyway.

it depends a lot on the caliber, i have heard that 17hmr is so light, that a gentle breeze can through your sho way off at any distance

for most 30 caliber rifles, (30-06,308,7.62x54r) it woul;d take a fair amount of wind to even move it of target at that range

With that combo.. You won't shoot any record groups in a tree whipping wind, but you will know where your hittin.. It won't push it around that much. Go have some fun.

It's kind a a good news/bad news thing... Good news, you won't sweat to death, Bad news, won't be the tightest groups possible.. Unless you can time it between gusts, or if you luck out and the wind directly in your face or on your back,, a quartering wind, not much at all at 100..

Go have fun... Everybody needs some time in the wind... it's part of this school were all in... I'll take a field trip over a lecture any day..

Thanks for all the responses. I went to the range and I don't think the wind was much of an issue.
