I just got a Remington model 11 sportsman. It's a 16 gauge Has only one bird stamped on each side serial 158xxxx I've read that the sportsman model is supposed to have an S prefix mine does not. It says "the sportsman" on the side of the bolt. Also has r.e.p. and what appears to be an anchor as in ⚓ stamped on the he right hand side of the barrel right where it meets the receiver

Maybe this is of help?

Rem Model 11 Mfg Dates???

Model 11 16 gauge serial numers.

Yea I done looked at all that. The second link set me in the right direction but I notice my number is a lot higher than the ones from October 1937 so I'm guessing 1942 since it was illegal to make sporting guns from 42 to 47 because of WWII and I don't think Remington kept making these after WWII but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not sure

Close to 20 years ago I bought a Remington "Autoloading Shotgun" (before they were called the Model 11) and contacted the Remington CS phone number with the serial number and they were able give me the exact year it was made (1907) and also mailed me a photocopy of its original user manual. Not sure if they still offer that service but you could google their number and give it a shot.
