So I have a mossberg 500 with an 18" security barrel & a 26" hunting barrel. I transport both to the range. Usually I wrap up the long barrel in a towel but I think I'm going to make a case to protect it better out of a PVC pipe. How do you guys keep your barrel safe? Has anyone made a case?

In pvc it will rattle around and wear off the finish. I like the idea though. Try putting caps on your pvc and then running the whole shebang through a table saw lengthwise. Attach hinges and a latch. Cut a chunk of eggshell to cushion the edges.

Or build yourself a box out of 1x4 with hinge on top.

Or buy a case designed for carrying TC barrels.

I carry my slug barrel in a gun sock in the case with the shotgun. Done this for years, no problems.

Americase makes great cases that are awesome, tsa approved, and in various formats. They aren't cheap but they work great and keep everything safe. Well worth the money. If not willing to go quite all there, you can buy a Plano copy of a pelican case or get a pelican case from amazon. The Plano will run you around a bill and the pelican about 2 bills, both work pretty well and are decent cases. If you can spare the coin get the Americase or pelican. Their warranty is great and both companies are easy to work with.

I have the same Mossberg 500 with the same barrels. I've had it for 20 years. I have a scope mounted on my rifled barrel. I asked a Mossberg sale representative this same question at the National NRA show two years ago. He had no suggestions. He actually took the time to walk me across the aisle and the two of us spoke with a reputable gun case manufacturer. That company did not have any case that would hold a second shotgun barrel.
The post by RMc has answered a question I have been totally unable to solve.

I keep each of my spare barrels in a one of those silicone socks that they have for storing your rifle or shotgun in. I also get gun cases that are slightly oversized so I can keep the barrel in with the gun if I want to take it along.

I got a hard sided plastic case from Remington that takes my shotgun broken down and holds and extra barrel, chokes, etc.. It's pretty darn sturdy and still in use after many years. The soft sided cases with a spare barrel sheath are just as handy, probably a lot easier to find too.

Either get a sock-up for a couple dollars or you may get lucky and find a case for a pool cue it will fit in.

Pool cue case. Sock up. Spare barrel case, Boyt makes them. My 19" spare 870 is in a Sock up. Boyt's also makes shotgun cases with a spare barrel compartment on the side.
