Hi,

I have a Marlin 925 and I want to scope it. Is there a certain type of rings that will be the right height for the rifle? What kind of rimfire scopes do you recommend? Tasco, Bushnell?

The correct ring height is the height that allows the scope to not touch the barrel and clear all moving parts. When in doubt I go for medium height rings, they work unless your scope has a large objective, for large objective scopes go with high rings.

Good that you are asking questions now.
If you are buying from a gun store, be careful what the salesman wants to sell you. It pays to do your homework and know what you want. I only wish I had done some more homework when I bought a scope, but I was too focused on my gun purchase.

I had Sportsman Warehouse mount my last couple. Bought most of the mounts and rings there. One scope but they stopped carrying it of late. If one mount or ring height doesn't work, we grab another. But I used to do all my own, I just got lazy.

dullh has it right. You mount your scope as low as possible although with CZ 452, I went up to Extra High due to bolt handle clearance on a large objective diameter. The High would have worked. This was with a Mueller APV 4.5-12x AO. Good scope for the money.

I avoid BSA and Simmons. Tasco and Bushnell rimfire scopes have been fine. Been using Weaver and Mueller scopes of late on rimfires. I never could see the benefit of a Leupold over a Weaver even though the eye distance is slightly longer with Leupolds versus Weaver in their rimfire line. Nikons are good.

Some folks dial in their scopes for distance and ammunition. Hence they are constantly adjusting the scope settings to pre-determined locations. If you plan to do this, I would suggest one of the higher grade scopes with target adjustments.

Like others have opined, my rule of thumb is to mount a scope as close as I can without interfering with the action/safety of the rifle. Unfortunately, because rifles and scope mount/rings are different, if you're unlucky, it may take some trial/error experimentation before you arrive at the right set-up for your rig.
