I posted this in the revolver section but realized most of the folks visiting there might be just as clueless as me (perhaps explaining why there weren't any responses).

Here's the question: Is it possible to convert a double-action-only revolver (specifically a Taurus model 85) to a single/double action simply by swapping out the bobbed DAO hammer with the spurred hammer typically found on the M85? I'm hoping the only reason why the hammer will not catch when manually retracted is because it lacks some kind of sear notch that the SA/DA hammers might have, thus rendering the revolver DAO.
I could be wrong about the suspected simplicity of the revolver's action, but hopefully I'm in for an easy fix.

I'm wanting to convert my Taurus M85CH (concealed hammer DAO) to the traditional M85 with hammer spur. I simply shoot SA much better than DAO and would like to cheaply convert it if possible.

I'd contact Taurus, but the work computers I've been using as of late filter out and restrict the visit to any site that involves firearms/weapons. I'll eventually go back to broadband back home, but since I'm hardly ever there anymore with all this OT, I figured I'd try this route.
Taurus's email would help too if no one knows the answer.

Thanks in advance!

Taurus double-action only hammers are made from the regular SA/DA kind, so yes, you can change your revolver back to the standard form. However, Taurus may insist on making the replacement for liability reasons.

Forget the 'net, and call them at: (800) 327-3776 or (305) 624-1115

Thanks a bunch, Old Fluff!

That's exactly what I'll do first thing Tuesday.

I've got an ENFIELD ll* pistol that is of course DAO. If one of the SA/DA hammers can be found would it also be possible to change it to SA/DA?:uhoh:

Some only had the hammer spur removed so the hammer can actually be cocked if it can be gripped. Most had the SA notch removed, though. I believe the triggers are all the same, so in any case a hammer replacement should remove that "star".
