How To Dispose Of Out Of Date Pepper Spray

We have a variety of critters that come into the yard so I put down some of the spray into the planters and while short lived 2-3 days it worked to keep them out.

If I ever owned pepper spray, the same way I do spray paint cans, .22 @ 50yds. They will then find their way to the dumpster of choice...

I'd make sure I was upwind and actually spray them until empty then discard the empty cans. Same as anything else having some practice using something before you have to is a good idea. Would be a good idea to actually see how far they are effective.

I empty my expired cans in my backyard where I don't want my dogs digging up the lawn. Works well, they leave those areas alone.

Then I place the empty canisters in a trash bag and toss 'em in the garbage can...

I use them for practice, usually out in the desert. Then I toss the empty can into the trash.

<edit> It recently came to light that although my wife has carried a can for years, it was the same can - and she's never actually used pepper spray at all. I bought her a replacement and made her "shoot" at random targets with the old one. She was pretty surprised at how weak the spray was (it was a typical pattern; not the result of a worn-out can) so it was definitely a worthwhile exercise.
