Two words...term limits. Representatives are limited to 6 terms, senators to two terms. Then they have to go get a real job. No more of this BS corruption and career politician BS.

Term limits are all well and good, but should be just that. One term, and that's it. Once you're elected, you never serve in the government in any capacity, ever again.

I'm not a big fan of any political system, but a legislature of working citizens who serve for a while, than go back to their productive employment would be far preferable to our modern political class.

Idea #1: The Tejon Amendment: "§1 That the Congress, the President and the Judiciary read and follow the U.S. Constitution, §2 That El Tejon shall enforce this section by beating people about the head and shoulders with a big, ol' stick."

Idea #2: Add a House of Repeal to the U.S. Congress a la Heinlein.

Idea #3: I like Chris'. Therefore, we'll start calling that The Tejon Amendment II.:D

now before we go too far

i would like to state that the civil servants of our nation are not to blame.
and trying to rotate the administrators of our nation on a 2-6 year basis would be a bad thing.

note administrators, not legislators

I thought 6 and 2 term limits would be a good way to get rid of the bad apples, but I guess they could always find a way around it. If we could just go back to the way the founding fathers had it set up... :(

Fix the Fed?

Repeal the income tax. The tax code allows Congresscritters so much power that it requires 53% of all DC lobbyists to work the tax angle just to spread out the wealth.

Imagine a tax system that no longer requires the government to spy on everyone and doesn't take an estimated $200-billion of time and tax fees in order to comply with the code.

I favor some type of term limits. Ronald Reagan said it best:

“Professional politicians like to talk about the value of experience in government. Nuts! The only experience you gain in politics is how to be political.â€

If their huge amount of power remains intact, the only thing that term limits will do is speed up the intensity in which moneyed interests attempt to buy off the legiscritters.

And they won't buy them off with just campaign donations. What about a plumb position after the L-critter retires? What about a career building internship for their college-bound child? What about placement in a top law firm?

This is a dirty business. It is their power (and the corruption that comes from it), which we must eliminate.

I say we pull back and nuke the place from orbit....

It's the only way to be sure.

(I've always wanted to use that quote)

My wife has had an idea similar to the "House of Appeal" idea. The idea is to require a certain amount of legislative time be devoted to the repeal of archaic and unconstitutional laws. The benefits would be twofold:

1. The repeal of worthless laws.
2. This keeps the congresscritters busy, thereby reducing the amount of meddling.

She also thinks that to kick off the enactment of this policy, there should be a 2 year moratorium on new legislation.

A little extreme, but desperate times call for desperate measures!!

1. Limit members of the legal profession to ONE branch of government. Yes, that could mean that judges have no legal experience, or legislators have no legal experience, but:

2. All proposed legislation must be reviewed by a (rotating) 5th grade class. If a simple majority cannot understand it upon FIRST reading, it is rejected.

3. Any proposed legislation that has a "wack" number of exceptions (exact number TBD) is, even if otherwise OK, DOA.

ex: Paragraph B, Section 4, Subsection 2f, dangling participle X, subclause 4219 states blah blah blah REJECTED!

ex: blah blah blah senseless drivel; This does not apply to any members, former members, or family members, living or dead, of: military, LEO, State Guardsmen, security guards, politicians, well-connected to politicians, special-interest groups, WNBA point guards, left-handed naturalized leprechauns. REJECTED!

Problem solved.:D
