I haven't done this, but I wonder if filing a shallow notch across the face of your drift punch might alleviate the slipping-off that was troubling you.

(And thanks for the video!)

Thanks :) Could probably work to help get it in most of the way, but i always try to keep my punch face smooth so that there is no marring or transfer of residue from the brass.

Your video is improperly titled; the proper, professional way is to use a sight pusher. Have I done sight installs your way? Yes. My own, in my basement shop. When working in a proper gunsmith shop, I used the sight pusher. I did note the hobby in your username.

It's not a big deal friend I know plenty of Gunsmiths, both personal friends of mine and other guys in the industry I've chatted with. And honestly it all depends on the firearm your working on. Blocks we used the sight pushers all day long because the sights are easy to move. But certain brands and models. Examples : Kimberly and Springfield have very tight sight fits from factory so to remove them you end up having to use punches especially with the Springfield XDS model. Installation you can do with either punches of sight pushers because you will fit them properly.
