So, last night, I stayed up late and read the owner's manual for my new S&W 638 (no, I'm not kidding). Didn't find out anything new, and I was primarily reading it to see if it said anything interesting about the aluminum frame or shrouded hammer bit. Then, in the back of the manual, it mentioned something about working on barrels, and how a "regular" barrel vise could hurt the firearm, due to their two-piece barrel assembly--that a regular vice would not get at the barrel-lining/barrel itself, but rather just destroy the "barrel shroud" (and to use the right type of equipment). I then started thinking.....if, with their 2-piece barrel setup they've been using lately, they call the outside sleeve part of the barrel a "barrel shroud," how would their line of revolvers (or firearms in general) be affected by anti-"shoulder thing that goes up" wording in the event of a possible AWB?
And by extension, if that calls into question the very nature of what is thought of as a "barrel shroud," what does that mean for other barrel manufacturers?
Or do I think too much?
