How would you dispose of a handgun

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm a little surpirsed at the number of "take it to the police" responses.

I'm thinking either the book end deal, or a visit to Mr.Hacksaw and a little trip out on my local lake may be in order.

I'm not sure I understand why that's needed. Why not just cut it up and throw it in the trash? What's the point of burial or sinking? You're not a criminal, it wasn't used in a crime, and it really is trash. Why not treat it as such?
 
I believe Gun Parts Corp buys non-functional pistols, or will at least tell you if they want them. I've never gone that route, but if they do take it, at least someone could use a part or two from it. Kind of like taking a junk car to the salvage yard. Maybe you'll even make a buck or two.
