Howa 1500, is this a good deal or not?

You know, I didn't even think about the floor plate, sounds like you've got a good many features though. My heavy barrel 20" 1500 was $550 at Academy Sports last summer. You've got a good price. Get you a bore light and some reading glasses and check out that barrel and crown. If its a target crown that another goodie. Take a qtip swap and ream that muzzle for any nicks. Good luck.

One other thing, Have him describe how he cleans the barrel. Find out how often and if he uses a bore guide, and what type of rod.

thanks

Thanks for the help. It does however seem that a premium is put on the gun chambered in .308, versus .243, .270, and 30-06. Any reason why the 308 rifles would demand more ??

I do not know why. I have 308s and 30-06s just so I use the same cleaning brushes and jags. They are similar ballistically up to 300 yds. All those calibers are good deer calibers. The 308 offers a wide variety of bullet choices. Look at Academy's pricing for a good bench mark for new 1500 models.

That qtip test should tell you everything you need to know about that crown. If it don't snag thats a good sign.

Here she is! :)

Sorry bout the quality of the pic.
She is in great shape, bore and crown are nice. Action is nice and smooth, bluing is 100%, it can't have been fired much because the finish on the bolt face is mostly there!
Couldn't get a real good look at the chamber to check for erosion, but shining a light in there it looks pretty good.
Ended up getting her for $320, with weaver mounts, cheapie sling and soft case! :)
Can't wait to take her shooting.

Looks like it has the overmolded stock which is a pretty good option. I have the same rifle, the only thing I do not like about the stock is the distance between the grip and the trigger - it seems that I have to really stretch my finger out to the trigger.

I think you got a pretty good deal for $320.

I'm a big guy. So it fits better than my 700. It will bother me till the day I die, but mines a. 270 but I wish it was a .308

thanks guys!

I am very pleased! Thanks all for your help deciding!
Only other gun I would have seriously considered is the Savage. But man the HOWA is a really nice gun! That ruger american I checked out last weekend wasn't even close as far as fit and finish!!
