Has anyone tried to put their Howa or Howa barrelled action into a Sako stock?

I understand the Howa 1500 is very similar.

Thanks!

I know the Weatherby Vanguards and Howa's fit the same stocks, but have no idea how much work it would take to make it fit in a Sako stock.

Last month I ordered a McMillan for my Howa. McMillan offers many stocks that copy other manufacturers stocks and can inlet a stock design from one rifle to fit the action of another. After talking to many others the advice I got was to order the Sako classic stock, but have it inletted for my Howa. There is a 3-4 month wait for a McMillan so It will be another 2-3 months before my stock comes in.

Thanks for the insight JMR40. Actually the Vanguard and the Howa 1500 and the S&W 1500 are all the same action.

It is interesting you were told to have that Sako stock inletted for your Howa. Its a long interesting history but the first Howa was a clone of the Sako Finnbear 61.

I have heard that the Howa 1500 is very similar to a Sako 579. I will have to do some measuring on the action bolts of the two.

The reason I am digging for this info is that a company in Canada can make me a 17 ounce stock for a 579. I would need to tweak it to fit my Howa action. I am obviously looking for light. I think I can get it close to 6.5 pounds with a light scope.

6.5 lbs is going to be tough with a Howa. The Weatherby/Howa actions are the heaviest of the common actions. The McMillan I ordered should be around 20 oz. and was $518+$25 for shipping.
