Sent this out to all my myspace friends, in what is known as a "Bulletin".

I was going to come here for advice, but I hastily posted it as soon as I was done, so it's already out there.

here it is:

You are a little bit more free today.

Hey everyone.

Some of you are familiar with the fact that I am a big fan of owning and using firearms for all lawful purposes, for myself and for any law-abiding citizen. I personally feel that there is no greater or more important freedom than the freedom to be armed, and also do not trust any government official who would want to pass laws to see you and I disarmed.

In my opinion, any such politician is either:
1. Too stupid to realize that criminals do not follow laws.
2. Has a secret agenda for the future so evil and sinister that disarming the populace first is the only way to pull it off (Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.).
. . . or both.

In that interest I pass on to you news of a recent court decision that has made me very happy.

For the past 30 years, the District of Columbia (AKA Washington DC), has oppressed the Second Amendment rights of the citizens of DC by passing and enforcing laws that made it impossible for a law-abiding citizen to own ANY firearm.

For anyone who is familiar with the Second Amendment, this law is obviously not valid, since it flies in the face of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which are the supreme law of the land. Such a thing is called "unconstitutional". Unfortunately, a law being unconstitutional does not mean that the law won't be passed by politicians with agendas, police will not enforce it, and once they do, it does not mean that the courts will not prosecute you, nor does it mean you won't go to jail when prosecuted. The law was in a legal gray zone being invalid and unconstitutional, but still being enforced (some might call this tyranny). What was needed was a process to clarify the law, and that's just what happened when a group of 6 DC citizens took the District to court claiming that it had violated their rights.

This past Friday, the court found in a 2-1 decision that the law WAS unconstitutional, and overturned it on the grounds that it violated the right of the people of DC to keep and bear arms. The court also ruled that the Second Amendment protected an "Individual Right", not a "Collective Right".

If DC decides to appeal this decision, it will go the the Supreme Court. A similar ruling in the supreme court would be a proverbial death blow to all efforts to pass more and more restrictive gun laws in this country.

To people like me, this is a huge victory for common sense, and for the rights of all US citizens. As a legal precedent, it also gives hope to residents of other places where rights are suppressed, such as NYC and Chicago, where only criminals are armed.

I started this post to forward a message I received about the DC decision. Then I thought I would write a little blurb on top of it describing why I was forwarding it. At this point I have written more in my blurb then the original article I was posting, so I am not even bothering to include it.

If you want to know more about this, correct me or comment, please message me.

Let me know what I could have done better.

I know of a few friends who are definately pro-gun. . . some are neutral, and one is definately anti. There are a few that I am unsure of, one of them surprised me by reposting my bulletin.

I am on the THR group, name is "Rich", I saw you there. I can't add you unless I know your name or something, so add me if you want.
