I was born and raised in Logan, Utah but now live in California. I am finishing up my bachelors degree and was thinking of doing my masters in Cedar City.

How is it as a town? Many places to shoot? Are there times during the year when you can't shoot due to the snow? Thanks, Tyler

I haven't been to Cedar City in a long time, but last time I was there it seemed to be a very small town. And anything outside of city limits is fair game. that means that after a short drive, set up your targets and go to town (not literally, please :D).

TONS of places to shoot within 20 minutes of town. If you like the desert, it's a really pretty area.

The only drawback to it is this: Being a college town basically out in the middle of nowhere, everything is expensive. But I'd say living in that area is worth it.

The only expensive thing "Here" is fuel . It takes longer to load up the vehicle than it does to get to a shooting spot. Hell, it's faster to just strap everything to the polaris (500 H.O.),and go. Shot all winter, snow-wind. Fingers get a little chilly. Thirty minutes to the east and your at ten-thou and forty-five to S-W and it's flat and hot. We're at around 5900 ft.
..::uhoh: .....Did I mention wind, ie: windy-high winds......:uhoh: :D

I'd imagine anywhere outside of Cedar is great shooting.

Grew up in Logan, huh? I lived there last year while attending USU. How long has it been since you've been there? It's probably changed a whole lot. Regardless, Logan is a great town.

Anywhere in Utah outside of Salt Lake Valley should have plenty of outdoors areas that you can shoot at. The Salt Lake Valley (the whole mess of SLC/West Valley/Jordan/etc.) is so crowded you'll probably never find a place to shoot outdoors there.

I'm sure 7.62FullMetalJacket could help you out -- he lives in Cedar City.

You would find a ton a great shooting spots around Cedar City. If I could find a job there, it would definately be a town I would choose.

SLC outdoor shooting

Somebody forgot: The Holladay Gun Club and The Lee Kay shooting center, both of which are in Salt Lake County and open 7 days a week, There are also several Duck Clubs in Salt Lake County where we blast away all season. (gotta be a member or a guest):)

Don't remember the area very well, but IIRC the desert provides ample "informal ranges."

This may be OT, but please tell us you're not thinking of going to George Wythe for a "degree."

Even though those folks are idealogically perfect as far as RKBA goes, the "university" is not accredited by anybody, no accredited college accepts their credits (to my knowledge) and most employers will either not hire you if the required degree for the position is from GW, or will can you if they hired you assuming GW was a legitimate, accredited school and they find out otherwise later.

I mean no offense to anyone who has/does attend there, just a word of warning from someone who has to enforce denials of employment and go after people for claiming false academic credentials.

Just my $.02
