I know under the folder ACTIVISM there is a sticky for HR1022 but all it says is who is sponsering and co-sponsering the bill. Does anyone know how it is actually doing, if they are debating it or not and if the politicians are defending or attacking it you know stuff like that.

All that tells me is that the bill has been introduced and is before the House Judiciary, Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. Is there no other info on what is going on with it? Anywhere talking about various politicians views on it, I guess I would like to know the direction that this bill is headed.

This bill is going nowhere. At least not before the 2008 election. If the Democrats take all, expect to see something like it get passed in 2009. If you want anything, I suggest you buy it before then.

Thats what I have been doing all year and I think my girlfriend is getting tired of me spending money on firearms instead of the house. So far this year I picked up a DPMS AR15, CETME, Siaga 12ga, and a Springfield M1A Loaded:neener:. I want to modify some of my exisiting firearms with items that may be banned but at the same time I would like to save money for a while. I figured that it wouldn't pass with Bush in office since he didn't renew the last one in 2004

I agree it's going nowhere soon. But even if the Dems "take all", don't expect such a bill to be a fast mover. Remember, we have all the data from the failed 1994-2004 "experiment" that speaks volumes on the ineffectiveness of such a bill.

Incidentally, a recent USA Today article mentioned something about Joe Biden and introducing another bill (in addition, or instead of, HR1022). Supposedly the plan is to make a "softer" bill that will be easier to pass. I still say it's going to be a hard pill to swollow, given the renewed interest and enthusiasm in the 2A.

Biden is preparing to introduce legislation to renew the assault weapons ban that was enacted under president Clinton and that expired in 2004.

"Only people with good character and good conduct have the right to own guns," Biden said during an interview with the Register.

Good character and conduct.....right Joe, you moron. We already have laws preventing ownership by criminals and mentally ill.

it's all kinda worthless if the 2008/2009 version has confiscation orders in it.

Truth has nothing to do with government. When Hillary is selected as the
next President expect an Executive Order that fully exercises her perceived
authority during a "time of war" and bans EBRs as WMDs used by terrorists.....

There'll be a lot of complaining on THR, but Jane and Joe six-pack will just
push the remote to the next channel and enjoy another episode of panem et circenses

HR1022 is just a bill.
Yes, still only a bill.
And its rotting there on Capitol Hill.
Well, it had a long, long journey
To the capital city.
But now it's a long, slow death
While its dying in committee,
But they hope it'll be a law someday
At least they hope and pray that it will,
But today its still just a bill.

:D
