Hey All, im trying to help a friend of mine get info on some of her dads guns that recently passed away.
She remembers this being his out and about the property "Snake Gun"
High Standard Sentinel MKIV .22 Mag 4"bbl
i think its nickel ive found alot of blue ones and high polish nickel but this one is matte so not sure. It seems to function just fine, really heavy double action pull the single isnt bad though.
Pretty Neat little revolver its got some light rust in spots anf the grips have varnish coming off, anything i can do to remove the rust?
Anybody shed any light on these? (not finding a ton online)
Anybody shoot one regularly?
How long were they made?
Thanks
Gene

Can't help you much with info on the Sentinel Mk.IV but I would try some Flitz on removing those rust spots. The finish looks to be some sort of satin nickel (maybe electroless nickel?), and should clean up fine with the Flitz. I have used it on blued guns as well as those that are plated and it works great.

I'm not sure about the dates, but I seem to remember seeing them in the late 70's, early 80's or so. I always thought they were pretty neat little guns. I've never owned a MK IV, but I've owned three or four of the "R" series Sentinels. My wife has one now that she's loves.

I agree, use some Flitz on the rust spots. Gently! By hand. Should come right off.

I seem to recall the Sentinel Mk. IV was redesigned back around 1970s (maybe 1974), a couple of years after Colt updated the Detective Special with a heavier shrouded barrel. The resemblance between the two revolvers was quite similar.

thanks guys! especially for the tip on the flitz, shes got fond memories of her dad and shooting this revolver so i may give it a try, see what she wants to do
Its a neat little gun for sure, and i thought it had a Colt appearance too with the shrouded barrel and the front sight
Appreciate the help guys

BTW, I had a 22 mag snubby with those grips. Take care of them. The current owner of the snubby doesn't know his own strength and cracked the wood. I don't think you can find replacements in wood nowadays.
