I sort of screwed up, I was getting ready for my big deer hunting trip next weekend on Sunday and I could not find the 4 boxes of 150gr core-lokts I thought I had. Then I remembered I used them up. I'm down to 8 rds, need to confirm a zero, and have 5 deer tags. Now I have a problem, I canvas every sporting goods store and walmart in town and nobody has .30-06 anything much less what the gun is sighted in for. Also, it is too late to order something and expect it to get here on time. The exception was one store that has a single box of some crazy high end ammo for $75/box which I did not buy and then a whole slew of HSM .30-06 SPBT 165gr.

I bought a box and headed to the range to rezero. It shot fine, went back and bought several more boxes and I am ready to go.

My question, what is the bullet in this, anybody know?

I get that it is soft point boat tail but what is the actual bullet? Given it is a soft point I'm sure it will expand to at least some extent and deer aren't that tough anyway, this is just more of a curiosity thing. I e-mailed HSM but when I have talked to them in the past it has been a super slow response so I thought I would ask here too.

Thanks

The Hunting Shack produces ammo using brand name bullets, and they usually use Hornady or Sierra bullets.
As MMCSRET mentioned, a call to them may shed light on the bullets used.

Got an answer, they are Speer 30 cal Spitzer BTSP.

They class it as a big game round so I should be more than fine. It is plenty accurate out of my Savage 110.

I would think that any quality soft-point round will do just fine for hunting. As long as you re-zeroed with that round, you'll be fine. Good luck on your hunt!

That was exactly my thought, I just wanted to know if it was a Nosler, or a Sierra, or whatever it happened to be for my own knowledge rather than any real concern about the performance. Mule Deer does at >200 yards won't be a big deal.

I hear ya. But the fact that it's a Speer should give you peace of mind. Speer makes a good bullet.

Sorry I can't tell you more about that specific round, though. I use 165 grainers in my .308, and they work great on deer! I think you'll like 'em.
